Question about Canon PIXMA MP210 Photo All-In-One Printer
Last night we installed a MP210 Canon on a Windows XP SP2 Home Edition OS (on a HP PC). After some trial and error (re-installation etc. due to not reading instructions!) the installation sw proclaimed everything installed correctly. We are able to print reasonably well (color, etc.). The trial page for the printer comes out correctly.
Problem is that any time we ask for a scan the reply is that it can not communicate with the scanner. In fact Omnipage says that it can't find any scanner when we launch the pre-install.
Considering that the Event logs don't show any error connected to the scanner could it be that the WIA service is not started (one of the solutions posed by the FAQ). At the moment I don't have the printer available (will have it later in the day) but I noticed that the WinXP SP2 that I am using at the moment has the WIA service in manual. Could the lack of WIA cause the software to say that it can't communicate?
Yes! No WIA, no scanning! It means Windows Image Aquisition is not turned on... Not only will the scanner not work but also other Imaging devices like cameras. The best way to find out will be to try and scan from Microsoft Paint. Go to Start, all programs, accessories then look for paint. When paint opens, click file then from scanners or cameras. Try to scan, if it scans then WIA is ok.
It means is the scanner software that was not installed correctly so uninstall reinstall just the scanner software! If Paint does not scan, then its your computer's Operating system (winxp) at fault. Make sure WIA is started, or better try to restart that service (in control panel, administrative tools, services, look for Windows Image Aquisition, restart the service).
