I found a great script that will test your hardware and tell you if it can support compiz on your ubuntu system, and if not, why it can't.

This is the script can be found at -

Good luck.

It's a matter of your videocard being current enough and Xorg supporting that card as it is configured; you can of course just try it and get an answer safely, intuitively, and in about a minute.
In brief, if your CPU can go over 1GHz and your videocard's a GeForce 4 (or ATI X800) or newer, even Centrino 2 graphics, it should run well.

How do i uninstall linux mint and keep ubuntu 12.04

It's not super complicated. Check out this thread in the Ubuntu Forums: Thread Remove dual boot Ubuntu Mint as well as : Boot Repair Community Help Wiki. Boot repair will help fix problems that will happen with GRUB, and give the option to select Ubuntu as default OS.

Let us know how it worked out.

Good luck!

I put ubuntu the computer over heet and now only work the trial of ubuntu. how vista can run again?

If you erased the Windows partition when you installed Ubuntu you will need to re-insert your Windows Vista disc and reinstall Windows over Ubuntu using that, This will only work if you have enough keys remaining on your Windows Vista License, however. Hope this helps.

To enable a cube desktop in Linux, you must have Compiz installed. Open a terminal and type in

sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager

When prompted, enter your password. When it is finished installing, go to the "System" menu, then go to "Prefences" then go to "Advanced Desktop Effects" and check the box next to "Rotate Cube".

I have an ASUS netbook that runs linux. I don't know linux, but was told to upgrade to ubuntu. I don't know how. Anyone know how?

1. I would suggest finding out which model Eee PC you are using and the hard drive size & type (4GB SSD, 160GB SATA, etc...). If you have less than 4GB, I would probably recommend using another Linux distro, as the Netbook Edition of Ubuntu is pretty heavy.

2. Next, I would probably suggest plugging in the Eee PC (Software/OS installation is very power intensive).

3. Download your distribution (Ubuntu Netbook Edition or Desktop, etc).

4. Download a copy of unetbootin for your PC ( -- There are Linux & Windows versions available.)

5. Using a USB thumb drive (USB Memory stick), you will want to wipe the drive (format using FAT/FAT32 filesystem).

6. Run Unetbootin, selecting the proper USB thumb drive & ISO image from the Ubuntu website.

7. After Unetbootin is finished, close it and safely disconnect the USB drive.

8. Next, plug the USB thumb drive into the Eee PC.

9. Turn on power to the Eee PC & after seeing the initial BIOS splash, hit the ESC key on the keyboard. This should bring up a boot selection screen. Using the arrow keys, select the appropriate USB drive and hit Enter (Return).

10. If all goes well, you should be running Ubuntu Desktop/Ubuntu Netbook Edition as a live desktop. (The installer is a link on the desktop.)

11. There are several step-by-step guides out there, so check them out, if needed. The installer should be very simple on this type of hardware, etc.

Good Luck!

What OS is the virtual machine running on? Also there is a flash bug that will not let go of the audio device until you have closed the browser. I assume that is not your problem, but it is aomething good to know anyway.

Ubuntu AMD 64 Question

Ubuntu for AMD 64 is the same as Ubuntu, only that it is optimized for use with a 64-bit processor, be it AMD or Intel. The upside in using Ubuntu 64 is that you will have increased performance when your ram is 4GB or greater because of the optimized architecture of 64bit. Any lower, you will not notice a difference between the two. The downside if it is that most softwares are made for 32bit, so your favorite app might not run on 64. If you are a newbie, I suggest you get the 32bit Ubuntu instead.
