Ubuntu Beryl Problem

Installed beryl on Ubuntu but I have a problem, the rain effect doesn't work, snow effect works.

This is my first experience with Ubuntu and beryl, and it's really great, I just want everything to work smoothly.

Thanks.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF UBUNTU USER:VISTA MICROSOFT OFFICE

Ubuntu is an open source operating system. With a Linux based system, there is no worry of gaining a virus, as well as all the security needed is built in from out of the box. With Microsoft Windows, you would need to worry about virus, hackers, etc. In a world where most of the security vulnerabilities are coming from third-party applications, Windows and Mac machines are at significant risk because they run lots of these apps and those apps aren't always updated automatically, which leaves the machines open to attacks. Again, to be clear, both Microsoft and Apple have comprehensive updating systems for their software - both the OS as well as company apps that run on top of the OS. The problem is with the software (programs, extensions, and plug-ins) from other vendors and the inconsistent methods they use for updating their code to protect against known flaws. With Ubuntu, there's one comprehensive software updating system. This is possible because Ubuntu has a centralized repository of applicationsand the only third-party applications that make it into the main repository are the ones that have been tested by Canonical (the company that produces Ubuntu) and are proven to work with the OS. This means that the Ubuntu main repository doesn't always have the very latest version of Firefox, for example, but you can be sure that the one it does have will typically install easy, work smoothly, and remain updated automatically. And, while iPhone and Android have a mix of free apps and paid apps, the apps in the Ubuntu Software Center are nearly all open source and free of charge. Like iPhone and Android, you have to sort through a fair amount of chaff in order to get to the wheat, but it's still a terrific 21st century computing experience. Both Windows and Mac need to learn from the app experience that is driving the mobile device market. Ubuntu has already beaten them to the punch.

If you add that to the fact that Ubuntu does a better job with software updates (a big security boost), then Ubuntu becomes a much more viable alternative for modern PC users, especially those who access most of their services and enterprise apps via a Web browser.

I put ubuntu the computer over heet and now only work the trial of ubuntu. how vista can run again?

If you erased the Windows partition when you installed Ubuntu you will need to re-insert your Windows Vista disc and reinstall Windows over Ubuntu using that, This will only work if you have enough keys remaining on your Windows Vista License, however. Hope this helps.

How can I uninstall Ubuntu from Dual Boot. I have a dual boot of Windows Vista Ultimate with Ubuntu 9.04 The specs of my computer is 2gb ram, 500 gb HDD and dual core processor 2.66ghz (E5300). I installed...

How to remove Ubuntu from a Vista dual-boot config

On my new PC I wanted (still want) to have toa go with Linux. I chose to experiment with Ubuntu. I downloaded thedesktop CD, burned it, freed up some disk space (inside Vista) andloaded up Ubuntu from the CD. After some experimenting I figured outhow to install Ubuntu in the empty disk space and it all worked fine(GRUB took over my booting (recognized Vista automatically!) and Ubuntuloaded up fine).

Then I tried to install my GPU drivers andeverything went wrong.. For some reason Ubuntu wouldn't boot anymore(failed to load X-Server or something). I was completely lost andwanted to remove Ubuntu.

This is where things start to get really messy!

Ifyou simply remove the Ubuntu partition, GRUB (Linux boot loader) willstill be on your PC (in control). It will trip out, as the Ubuntupartition will be removed.. Bad thing!

So you need to restore your Master Boot Record (MBR) for Vista (so that Vista will handle the booting, not GRUB).

Googleonly pointed me to sites that explained how to REMOVE VISTA, whichisn't what I wanted. Many sites talked about the 'fixmbr' command, butthis is really only available in Windows XP.

So how do you restore your MBR for Windows Vista?

1. Put the Windows Vista installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
2. Press a key when you are prompted.
3. Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next.
4. Click Repair your computer.
5. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
6. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Command Prompt.
7. Type Bootrec.exe /FixMbr, and then press ENTER.

That'sit. Now when you reboot your PC, Vista will load automatically... Youcan now safely boot using your Ubuntu desktop CD, to use the built inGnome Partition Manager to remove your Ubuntu partition!

HP Pavilion w. Vista, am trying to open Ubuntu for first time since install, but it wants a user name and password. Have tried all the combos from Windows, keep getting wrong password or name message. Also...

First of all, try this:
Username: root
Password: root

Second of all, you only specified that you had Vista. If you manually installed Ubuntu, then you must've specified a Username and Password during the setup.

If none work, then go ahead and format the Ubuntu partition, then re-install Ubuntu. This time, try to remember the Username and Password.

Beryl on Ubuntu

Usually when the video of an app starts to mess up, that means either the video card you have in the computer isn't up to the standards for the app.

Or your having RAM issues. You may need to install more ram so the app can actually work without flaws.

Sure, linux is designed to take the best performance of what it has to work with. However some apps are designed specifically for top of the line systems.

Hi Josh

First of all check system setting.

It seems like your modules are not loaded, if you just installed, I recommend you to
re-install Ubuntu, if this is not the case, try to run -

sudo apt-get -f install

If everything fails, try this - sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils start
