The TV is a Philips 60PP9363H. The first problem is the convergence on the blue is off in the upper right hand corner and lower center of the screen causing blue shadows in those areas of the picture. My second problem is when I ran a sensor test I got an error massage reading "Sensors not verified at locations: 1234"

I'd like to fix the problem myself if possible. I am well versed and practiced in using a multi meter. I have done some electronic repair and I'm a capable solderer.

  • pit_deamon Sep 08, 2008

Where is this part located in the tv set? Does anyone have a schematic?

The answers were very helpful I thank everyone who offered their input.

First you need to try this :You can try a hard reset: Unplug TV from AC mains and remove all cables from TV. Wait about 30 minutes and replug to AC power and redo the cabling. Switch on the TV and see if it works.. and you still have same problem then I would recommend going to the following link and getting the service manual so he can see first hand disassembly instructions and testing proceedures. Its only 10.99 and they email it to you shortly after purchase. The manual is a valuable resource as it will have part numbers in case you do need a new SKT IC"S. heres the link.

Are you trying to repair this yourself or have it repaired? It is a convergence problem. Please don't reject my help until I have all the information needed. You can always accept and rate a solution accordingly.
Thanks,

Ok but by continuing to look for another experts help you discourage the people who already have tried to help you that is why I told you not to reject my help til I had more information. I can still help you if you decide to reconsider the rating. I would recommend purchasing the service manual and going from there.
    Thanks,
    Lee

If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience you should take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. Even when plugged out, TV's can store very high voltages.

Check the blue horizontal convergence amp on the convergence panel.
Whether or not this is an in house solution, is up to your experience in electronic repair and specifically TVs.

Good luck

Convergence problems are generally simple repairs, presuming you know
how to solder and have a bit of brains about you. Eventually every
projection set will have this problem - STKs are usually at fault
(STK392-010/020/040, STK392-110/120/150/180, etc) and are easily
aquired and replaced. Sometimes a fusible resistor is taken out in
power supply circuit, sometimes a resistor will burn. Generally easy
fix. Repalce STK and any fusible/blown resistor - you will need a
multimeter, decent soldering equipment (NOT a 40watt iron or gun from
Radio Shack, unless you're brave) and the replacement parts. But as
everyone says - servicing TVs can be hazardous. Call a servicer if
you're concerned, but in-shop repair should cost less than $250 - it
would never exceed that at our location.

The convergence IC's are definitely bad. This is not something you can fix yourself unless you know how to solder and are technically inclined.

Sounds like your convergence IC chips have failed. You can buy the parts from various suppliers or you can just get a complete repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com

You have possibly contaminated fluid in your blue picture tube if it has a hazy look.Blacks and whites look bluish and whites have a blue bloom to them. The other problem could be bad convergence amps. This would be double image around letters on the screen.

Philips Blue Shadowing

If you have not already done so go into the picture menu and set the convergence. The convergence is the angle at which the three picture tubes meat at a given distance. The tv will have at least 3 and up to 64 convergence points, and those 64 can be set for all three colors. This can be tiresome but I'll be it will solve your problem. What your trying to do is get the color in the cross-hair so you cannot see the color behind the target. On top of the fine setting for each point and color you will probably have 3 gross adujustments for blue and green and maybe red. These adjustments will affect positioning, like what you are discribing. You should do this at least every month, the thermal cycleing of the lamps is what will cause this to creep out of adjustment.

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Solution:
You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit inlcludes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself. Its an easy fix.

Blue shadow

If the blue shadow is convergence you should have an option for convergence adjustment via the remote control to converge the blue onto the green. If it doesnt move then its probaly a IC problem. What make and model set do you have?
