I have a Maytag Dryer Model MDE308DAYW, I am trying to connect a 4 wire plug in to the back. 3 of the 4 wires look like they would go on the obvious bar with 3 screws and they would go from left to right , Black, White and Red.
The problem is the green ground wire. There is no obvious place. There are 2 green headed screws below the 3 wires and the one on the left has a green wire attached and the one on the right has a white wire attached.

unplug dryer, move out from wall so you can get to the back. use a 1/4" nut driver and remove the rear panel. The heater element is on the bottom right. before replacing check for continuity. if the heater has continuity, check all of the other componets on the rear of the dryer. i would advise to check the small white thing with 2 wires connected.

Hi,
Here is a tip that will help you with changing your dryer plug. Dryer Cord and Wiring Dryer 3 Wire or 4 Wire
Connect the colors with the colors on the dryer wires Black with black, White to white, and red to red. The green wire gets attached to the dryer cabinet on the screw on the outside of the access hole on left normally. on the exterior of the cover. Give me a rating if I helped you. Good luck!
Take of back of unit, unplug first. Heat element is near heat duct side with wires attached to it. Unscrew and slide it out. You could also put a tester to each wire to see if you have a complete connection. If ok check thermal switches, one could have gone bad.
The green is the safety ground, it goes to a contact that is directly connected to the body of the dryer. A dryer cord is usually a flat thing with the wires that have lugs crimped on them. Usually the power wires are black, and the neutral wire is white. It's usually difficult to put it on wrong, so if it goes easy, it's probably right.
how do you change a 3 prong plug to a 4 prong plug when the colors dont match on the wires to the dryer?colors on the wires are red white black and green. colors on the terminal of the dryer are a black and yellow tied together a white in the middle and 2 blues tied together. this is a maytag atlantis dryer. thankyou chad....
