I just bought an external keyboard and have plugged it in to use it. The keyboard will not allow me to type. It is picking up both signals from both keyboards. So in other words when you press the x button on the new external keyboard it is sending the sygnal of from the x button plus the sygnal for the ctrl key button which gives the computer the sygnal to cut something. Thasame go's for all the shortcut keys. For example. z = undo, c = copy, v = paste. The two keyboards are woring as if they are synced. I want to disable the main keyboard so that the damaged ctrl key doesn't have an effect on the new keyboard.

Go into your BIOS and disable the Factory Keyboard. Reboot your system and you're all set.

Am using Asus X5DC notebook pc, my keyboard is very bad that no button is working. I bought an external keyboard that has no fn button. What do I do???

External keyboards do not have the Fn button because that feature is a laptop-specific characteristic. The Fn buttons are coded into the laptop to control specific features of the device. Thus no generically-supplied external keyboard can be expected to be able to replicate the functions. You are best to purchase a new keyboard for the laptop. They are usually not too expensive and can often be replaced rather easily. Some laptops are more difficult than others, but there are many videos on YouTube that show how to do these.
In fact, here is a link to a YouTube video showing how easy it is to remove your keyboard. They don't get much easier than yours....

External Keyboard prints @ instead of ", and vice versa on a PPP1000 bought in Australia a few days ago.

click on "start", then control panel, if win 7 click type in the box in the upper right "Keyboard" some keyboard options will open go, look in the list for region and language, pop open "Location" and change the location to where you are, or the language you want. NOTE: this may not help, but the problem is in the computer not the keyboard itself. If this doesnt fix it, you will need to contact the people you bought the computer from and get a replacement.

Kids :) To solve your problem first you need to find out if there is any key that is broken or loose. What you could do is 1) turn off the laptop and wipe the keyboard hardly with a towel to release one of those broken keys. 2) if this doesnt work, you need to unplug external keyboard, and then goto start-> right My Computer -> Manage -> device manager -> keyboards -> rightclick standard keyboard and disable it.

Now put in your external keyboard and test your keyboard. Dont worry your mouse is still working and you can enable your onboard keyboard again. Try this and let me know if your problem is solved or detected. If your external keyboard works, i guess there is a problem with your onboard keyboard. you would require to service it. cheers.

External keyboard messing up Gateway settings

You have to unlock the FN key on your keyboard. It seems to be locked in place. I had the same problem and resolved it by looking for a "num lock" , "function lock" or actual blue image of a lock on the keys. Mine is located under the "Scroll" button. Press this along with the FN and your keyboard should go back to normal

It's an internal problem. If ocurring after messing with the keyboard the solution is to turn off the asus, unplug the battery, plug it again and turn on. It happens in both 700 and 900 models.
