D-Link Air lets you access your network from anywhere you want. However, keep in mind, that range is limited by the number of walls, ceilings, or other objects that the wireless signals must pass through. Typical ranges vary depending on the types of materials and background RF noise in your home or business. The key to maximizing range is to follow these basic principles: 1. Keep the number of walls and ceilings to a minimum - Each wall or ceiling can rob your D-Link Air Wireless product of 3-90 ft. of range. Position your Access Points, Residential Gateways, and computers so that the number of walls or ceilings is minimized. 2. Be aware of the direct line between Access Points, Residential Gateways, and Computers - A wall that is 1.5 feet thick, at a 45 degree angle, appears to be almost 3 feet thick. At a 2-degree angle it looks over 42 feet thick! Try to make sure that the Access Point and Adapters are positioned so that the signal will travel straight through a wall or ceiling for better reception. 3. Building Materials make a difference - A solid metal door or aluminum studs may have a negative effect on range. Try to position Access Points, Residential Gateways, and Computers so that the signal passes through drywall or open doorways and not other materials. 4. Make sure that the antenna is positioned for best reception by using the software signal strength tools included with your product. 5. Keep your product away (at least 3-6 feet) from electrical devices that generate RF noise, like microwaves, Monitors, electric motors, UPS units, etc. 6. If you are using 2.4GHz cordless phones or X-10 (wireless products such as ceiling fans, lights, and home security systems), your wireless connection will degrade dramatically or drop completely. Anything using the 2.4Ghz frequency will interfere with your wireless network. For the average home, range should not be a problem. If you experience low or no signal strength in areas of your home that you wish to access, consider positioning the Access Point in a location directly between the Residential Gateways.

I'm not familiar with this specific model, but the general rule for two-way handheld transceivers is that you have to set them both to the same radio channel (one of 8), set the same CTCSS tones and/or digital alert codes, and start learning to use them at about 20-50m distance. If you're close enough to talk to each other without the radios, the transmitted signal may overload the receiver and it won't work. If you're at the maximum advertised range, you'll need to have rare and optimum conditions (such as, from one hill-top to another) or it won't work. Don't expect to get 10km range unless you can see each other through telescopes.

915MHz RECEPTION CHECK FOR OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
The atomic clock will receive the temperature data within 3 minutes. If the temperature data is not being received 3 minutes after setting up (the display shows "- - -"), then please check the following points:
1. The distance of the atomic clock or outdoor temperature sensor should be at least 6 feet (2meters) away from any interfering sources such as computer monitors or TV sets.
2. Avoid placing the receiver onto or in the immediate proximity of metal window frames.
3. Using other electrical products such as headphones or speakers operating on the same signal frequency (915MHz) may prevent correct signal transmission and reception.
4. Neighbors using electrical devices operating on the 915MHz signal frequency can also cause interference.
Note:
When the 915 MHz signal is received correctly, do not re-open the battery cover of either the outdoor temperature sensor or atomic clock, as the batteries may spring free from the contacts and force a false reset. Should this happen accidentally then reset all units (see Setting up above) otherwise transmission problems may occur.
The maximum transmission range is 330 feet (100 meters) from the outdoor temperature sensor to the atomic clock (in open space). However, this depends on the surrounding environment and interference levels. If no reception is possible despite the observation of these factors, all system units have to be reset (see Setting up).

Radio transmits at close distance only.


If the radio device has a variable strength setting for transmission, set it at the higher value... for example 5 watt as opposed to 1 watt. Also, ensure you have a quality antenna. Radio signals are usually line of sight signals, so if there are many obstructions between the radio antenna and the receiver/listener, strength of signal can be affected.

I have a WRT300N router. I was wondering what the maximum distance that laptop with a WPC300N can be too still get a good signal?


Coverage
We tested the router’s coverage at different distances and with different obstacles. We measured the signal level in five points:
Point 1: Near the WRT300N
Point 2: At a distance of 4 meters without obstacles
Point 3: At a distance of 5 meters + two thin gypsum wallboards
Point 4: At a distance of 6 meters + one brick wall, about 30cm thick
Point 5: At a distance of 17 meters + one thin gypsum wallboard and one 30cm brick wall

I just installed d-link wbr-1310. I am getting 1/4 the speed using wireless. Are there any setting I change to resolve this.


Wireless connections are running on a slower speed by definition.

A wired connection with this router sets the maximum speed at 100 Mbps.

A wireless signal in a 802.11b network has a maximum speed of 11 Mbps, and a 802.11g network has a maximum speed of 54 Mbps.

These numbers are theoretical numbers and never achieved in reality. (like a Toyota Prius makes 60mpg...)

So depending on your wireless network adapter and how your setup physically looks like (distance to the router, interference with telephones, microwaves etc.) it is absolutely possible that you wireless speed is considerably slower than your wired connection.

For problem number 1, your linksys home router has a maximum signal range of 100 to 150 feet, that is less than 50 m. The reason for the poor connection is the distance between the laptops and the wireless device. Try moving the router closer to the center point from where both laptops are stationed. If you can make the maximum distance between 30 and 40 meters (shorter the distance the better the connection strength) from the router to both laptops this may solve the first problem. If you cannot change the location of the router, then you may want to consider switching to a wired connection for the laptop you are trying to review from, (the maximum distance for cat 5e ethernet cable is 100 m).

For problem number 2, I am unsure what you mean by system does not work, do you mean your laptops will not turn on, or that you cannot pick up a signal from the wireless device?

Intermittent disconnection issues on a radio/wireless network will generally be caused by interferance (speakers, power board fully loaded, High wattage Lamp (flourescent bulbs usually) all parked too close to the wireless router, access point or network card. or possibly due to interuption of the active signal possibly because the distance of the router and network card/access point is just on the edge of the best signal limit and disruption occurs when someone or something gets up and moves itself inbetween the two service points)I resolved my disconnection issues by purchasing a wireless Kite for the access point and router, which will intensify the radio signal and bring the access points within closer range of each other, friends of mine have resolved intermittent signal issues by making a thin tube of rolled tinfoil about 30cm long slipped over each aerial affected by the intermittent signal disconnection. Also verify the "line of sight and non line of sight" signal distance limits for your radio equipment as the signal distance will decrease depending on the age of your wireless equipment, most equipment is in the 30Ft non line of sight- 100Ft line of sight arena out of the box but you can expect to half this figure after 3 - 5 years of continued use. Basically three options Interferance, Interupption or age only distance testing will verify this accurately IE: bring the router and access point withing 1Ft of each other and start walking away still holding the access point, whilst a user monitors the radio network condition.
