Question about Microsoft Windows 98 for PC

Need to add freecell back to my Windows 98 on an old system for my 85-yr-old Mom

Can't find original 98 disc, it is missing in action. Is there any way to buy a new Windows 98 disc and it work? I'm not a guru but I can put a disc in my system if this would work.

I have windows xp with Firefox and I installed Nancy Drew Danger by Design, but when I try and play it a window pops up telling me to insert disc 1 and press ok. I do that but it won't do anything but...

I'll start with a few issues that might or might not be relevant but do need to be considered and eliminated.

I will assume that this game is in the PC Format required for use with computers, rather than Games Consoles and is compatible with Windows XP and is not an older program designed for use with older Operating Systems such as Windows 95, 98, ME or 2000 or for only other, newer Operating Systems such as Windows Vista, Windows 7, Linux or Mac OSX. I will also assume it is stored on a genuine original disc rather than a copy of one.

It is likely that it is one of a certain type of games which can only be played with the Disc in the computer. The original discs of such games can rarely be copied successfully and when copied discs are used, they tend to produce exactly the same results you describe.

Instead of inserting the disc when requested, leave the disc in the computer and start the game with disc already inside, ready for XP to immediately recognise and access it without any delay.

If this doesn't solve the problem > uninstall the game and all its components completely from the computer > start > control panel > add or remove programs >click once to highlight the game's program > Uninstall > yes > OK > shut down > restart the computer > check that the read surface of the disc is clean and unscratched, wiping the read surface of the disc in a gentle, slow, circular motion, using a slightly damp paper towel, if necessary > install the program again carefully and methodically, looking out for tick box options you may have missed during previous installations, especially any alternative option that allows you to choose whether to access the game's files from the disc during play or, alternatively, to do so from the computer - if so, choose computer > Restart the computer > leaving the disc inside the computer, test the game again > to remove the last doubt, test the game without the disc in the computer.

Good luck!

I hope this helps.

My windows xp pro games are gone

Do you meant the Microsoft Games (ie Freecell, Hearts,etc...) in XP?
You will need the XP CD to reinstall the Games if the Games had been removed.

Click Start -> Control Panel ->Add or Remove Programs(under catergory view)->Click Add/Remove Windows Components, this will bring up the "Windows Component Wizard", Check or tick - Accessories and Utilities (you can click on ->details to view the options your are installing)-> click next & follow the wizard to finish the installations.

Hope it helps.

How to go back the original windows installed in pc?

You need the original CD-rom disc that came with the compueter when you bought it.
Then, with that inserted, reboot, enter the BIOS, set boot sequence to CD-Rom, restart again and follow the instructions on screen.

System Code Error 87

Sounds like the application you are running may not be compatible with Windows 98. Probably can't do much as Windows 98 is so old.

Although it may be a missing file, DLL, or driver on your Windows 98 system, hard to tell.
