Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Horizontal lines I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80.  When I look at the screen to take a picture, everything looks fine.  Video setting works fine too.  But, when I take a picture, there are horizontal lines all the way across the whole screen on every picture on every setting except the video as I already stated.  Please let me know what this means.  Thanks for your help.

I have exactly the same problem the venetian blind effect is only on the picture after it is taken (the screen shows a perfect shot) and the video does not have the same effect

I'm not a very patient person so I've already taken care of this problem.  I'll called Sony and they were surprisingly helpful.  My camera was out of warranty but they told me if I paid for the shipping, they'd foot the bill for the repair and they did.  I got my camera back in about  2 weeks and it works great and I just had to pay to ship it to them for repair.  It's nice to know a big company out there will still do a nice thing now and then.  I'm not sure what repair they did but it now it works great.

Thank you for your time and suggestion.

Hi

It sounds like the aperture in your lens is stuck open and the pictures are overexposed. Try a lower light setting, do the pictures look alright? If so it's the aperture, and the lens will need to be replaced. If the camera is still in warranty call Sony and send it in for repair.

A couple other solutions would be to either buy a defective camera online and make one good camera from the two if you can do that sort of thing yourself, or secondly have it repaired by somebody.

Don't bother trying to send the camera to Sony if it is out or warranty (though you can call them and verify what I'm about to say) because they will want $150+ to do the repair for you. Parts are not cheap to buy from them.

I know of one very affordable digital camera repair business... because I own it. The name is Darntoothysam, feel free to check us out, we are on that big auction website also (I don't plug their name for free), our seller ID is 'darntoothysam'. If you Google "darntoothysam" you will find us.

We have your repair listed as a package in our store for about $70. This covers a new lens, and return shipping of your camera! We even give a 45 day warranty on parts and labor. If you think you can use us then please check us out, even if you need to ask more questions then please feel free to contact me.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

Horizontal lines on the screen after the picture is taken

Remove the Battery from the Camera then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then, reinsert the Battery pack and turn on the Camera and reset it to the original factory settings by selecting the "Initialize" option under Setup1.

If the issue persists then service will be required.

Issue with my Sony Cyber-shot DCS-W80

Hi!
Does the display itself or just the image blink? Actually, W80, W85 and W90 has a problem with the shutter cable connector - it looses contact from time to time, so the shutter could open or close all the time, changing the amount of light getting through and when shooting doesn't close as the camera is not able to control them normaly as there's a loose connection. If the pictures have horizontal lines (zoom in the picture to check it) then it's 100% this problem. If so, you should contact your local Sony service center and see if they can fix it for free as it's a factory problem. If they don't aggree / ask too much, you can contact me at toms.safranovs@gmail.com and I can try to help you to fix this problem yourself (if you're ready to open it).
I work in a Sony service center.

Hope this helps!

Not that it helps at all, but I have the same problem with my sony DSC 80 but its because I dropped it in a river. It works just fine, other than the fact that it takes black pictures now.

It sounds like a problem called Banding. In banding, charge is spilled from saturated CCD cell to teh neighbouring cells. There is nothing you can do about it except exchange the camera.

Try contacting Sony support.

The camera is probably is "Burst" mode where you hit the picture button and it contineously takes the picture. Hit menu and look to see if you have it set to burst mode if so take it off and it will work..I just found the answer on here :)
