This can be a caused by a virus or something so this thing that you can try is to format the flash drive , Connect the flash drive to your computer then format it that should clean the falsh drive and hopefully it will be back to its original size..

Hope that helps..........

I deleted all the memory in the flash drive, its a 2 gb, but it tells me that theres only 41mgb in it.

Try emptying you trash on the computer that you deleted the information on. Or recycling bin depending on the type of computer. When you "delete" the information from the flash drive, it does not permanently delete it until the "Trash" is emptied.

Message on LaCie Hard drive says Hard Drive is full, but I cannot clear

Ensure that your system drive C: is not full, or you get similar troubles. When the external hard drive start giving this kind of troubles usually it is becouse of a bad FAT, the only solution is formatting the hard drive. Store your 15 GB elsewhere and format it.

I want to delete some folders previously backed up on my Seagate 100 GB USB External Drive. When I drag the items to my Trash (MacBook Pro) the next time I look into the Seagate, the files are there. How...

At the moment you're just copying them to you trash bin.

Access the requisite file/folder on your external drive, RMB click, should give you a drop down menu. Choose the Delete or Move to trash option.

Alternatively, click on (highlight) the file then click on file at the top of your browser window and select delete from the drop down menu.

Smoking Drive

If you can't get the drive to spin up, you won't be able to recover data from it without specialized hardware. There are data recovery services that are able to recover your data from trashed drives but they are expensive. If your files are important enough, that is the way to go; otherwise, I would smash it up a bit and trash it.

Cannot delete files from Maxtor Hard Drive on Mac

Hi Simon Is there a problem deleting or is it that you just don't know how to do it?
If it's the former you need to supply a bit more info. If it's the latter then it's very easy.
Highlight the file you want to delete, right-click and select move to trash (second item down).
This moves the file to the trash but doesn't delete it.
Next you can right-click on the trash icon in the dock and choose Empty trash or go to the finder menu and select empty trash from there. After that your files should have been deleted from the maxtor.
Simple eh?

How do I (on my MAC) format my kingston data traveler 512mb?

when you send items to the trash in finder. it places a trash extension on the files and saves them so to remove the items permanently you must empty the trash you can empty it while the disk is attached but be aware that when you empty the trash it will remove all .trashes including those on the hard disk so make sure to check the trash can for files you may need ahead of time also if this does not correct the problem you can connect the disk and open /applications/utilities/'disk utility.app' select the disk on the left then choose the erase tab at the top of the box I am not really familiar with these jump drives (I don't use them) but I would imagine you can use any format although for the disk to show up on mac and windows computers you must format to a ms-dos(fat) file system

Is computer a PC running XP? If so, go to control panel, admin tools, and run computer management. Open storage\disk management, does card show up? If so format it (as fat32, but may be as fat16 depending on requirement of your other devices.)

Creating space on external hard drive

When you move files to the Trash on a Mac you are just marking the files to be deleted next time you empty the trash. You are not actually deleting them when you move them to the trash. They will continue to take up space on your drive until you empty the trash.

Emptying the trash will delete everything in the Trash folder regardless of which drive it is stored on. If you have files you are not certain you want to delete that are located on your internal drive, open the Trash folder and move them temporarily out (like to the desk top), then empty the trash to delete all the ones on the external drive that you do want to clear off.

You will see that the free space has increased on the external drive. Now put back in the trash the files from your internatl drive you were thinking of deleting but not certain you wnated to (if that is your reason for not wanting to empty the trash. I'm not clear on why you would not want to delete them.)

I expect you have tried something else in the USB?
Look at the contacts is all I can suggest.
Could be an internal fracture from rough handling.
