If the router is not being rcognize by the computer when you run the setup CD the router can be bad, first this to do is to try resetting the router by pressing the reset button for about 10 seconds while it power on, then when you run the setup CD make sure the computer is wired to port number 1 of the router and modem is on the internet port, and also check the lighyts there power should not be blinking , and port 1, internet and wireless should be on.
If the power is blinking that is not good it means there's a problem with the router and if the router is still new have it replace from the store and if its less that 3 years go Linksys tech support and have it replace this is the number 800-3267114..

Hope that helps...........

Unplug the router and delete the device in the device manager.
If you don't have the driver disk, download the driver install package from another computer. Use the driver disk to begin the install process and don't plug the device in until prompted by the install software.

Make sure that you software on your Laptop (intel Pro Set) is what some Wi Fi use. But what ever it may be start from the start.

.1) software ( intel Pro Wireless) or the wireless software that your network card came with

Make sure that if this your first time doing the connections and that you have no other devices/Computer your Laptop I would try the simple way and use the Network cable and install the software. So in short if you do not a server(PC) then use the cable first to set up everything.

Linksys router password

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

How do I connect my linksys wireless router?

Here are the steps :

1.Attach the antennas to the Linksys wireless router.

2.Place the router in a central location, making sure it's not surrounded by metal. (A signal can't be obtained through metal.) The router should be located so that the distance between clients (computers) is somewhat equal. This will create a better connection.

3.Plug the Ethernet cable into the "Internet" port on the back of the Linksys router.

4.Connect a computer to the router by plugging another Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer and attaching the other end to one of the available ports on the back of the router. You can choose any port except the one labeled "WAN."

5.Plug the router into an electrical outlet.

6.Wait for the power light to stop flashing, at which time the router is finished booting up. While the router is booting, the power light will be blinking. This process may take a few minutes to complete.

7.Reboot your computer so it can access a new IP address from the router through the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

Configure the Router procedure.

1.Open your web browser, type " http://192.168.1.1/ " into the address bar and hit "Enter."

2.Use "Admin" as the username in the pop-up box and leave the password blank.

3.Connect to the Internet and click on "Internet Setup."

4.Select your connection type from the drop-down menu. Choose "DHCP" for cable modems or "PPPoE" for most DSL modems. If you are unsure of these options, check with your ISP.

5.Set a service set identifier (SSID) to identify the router and change the password.

6.Encrypt your wireless connection using a Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key. Under the "Wireless Security" option, enter a passphrase and click "Generate." This will generate a password which will need to be used by any client connecting to your router.

Adding Dell Dimension 4600 to existing wireless network?...

Go to Staples and purchase a Linksys USB wireless-G (only G needed - the new "N" protocol is overkill) adapter (~$60.00). Insert the Linksys CD and follow the instructions. When prompted, plug the USB adapter into the Dell (frt or back) doesn't matter. If his "roomies" have security enabled on their router, you'll need to know the level, password/passphrase, and the network name that they assigned.
Good luck.

I CAN NOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET ..using Linksy wireless remote

the wireless card installed to your computer is working..as you said you can view all wireless networks...your computer is good too...the only issue is you cant connect to the wireless router...

turn off and unplug the power cable of the Modem
turn off and unplug the power cable the router

wait for 30 seconds
plug in and turn on the modem, wait for all the light turn to solid green ( no blinking lights )

then power on the router

if you saw the wireless icon light turn solid...

go to your computer...right click the wireless icon...select repair

if this doesnt work....reset your internet router by press and hold the reset button behind the router near the power plug (atleast 15 sec)

then connect your PC..the wireless network dont have the WEP key anymore because of the reset..you can reconfigure and put back the WEP key when you get connected.

Unable to connect to internet wirelessly, but i can use cable to connect then, it says the internet connect is linksys internet

Do you have a wireless card? Is it installed? linksys usually doesnt have many problems. Depending on what computer you have you might need to flick a switch or press a button somewhere to turn on your wireless nic. If you do have a wireless card look for some drivers online. I cant tell you too much without knowing what computer you have or how you have your router set up.

I have a cable modem, Motorola SB5101, Nd need to connect my linksys wireless router.

If this is a first install of a brand new Linksys router:
Just plug your cable modem to the back of your linksys router's internet port, then plug a computer to Port 1 on your router, type http://192.168.1.1 in your internet browser on the computer connected to Port 1, you will access the setup page of your linksys router (leave the user name field blank and type admin as password)
Now you can go to http://www.cas411.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=68 to setup your wireless securely, you do not want to just leave it at its default settings, as anybody could then use your internet access or worst, check what you are doing on your computer.
Let me know if you need more help!
