Question about IBM ThinkPad R40 2897 Notebook

1 Answer

IBM ThinkPad R40 2897

My Thinkpad will not boot. I bought a new battery because for a while I could only use my laptop when it was plugged in. But, with the new battery it still does not boot. All of the "idiot" lights come on when I push the power button but the nothing. Is this a fixable problem without loosing everything on my computer?
Thanks for the help.

You can buy ext. hd case to back up your things, if your ibm can't boot then might be your motherboard got problem or graphic card.

Ibm thinkpad t43 wont boot

Remove the battery, and unplug it from the wall. Leave it for 30 seconds and then try turning it on with just the power plugged in. So without the battery. Best of luck, Ravi Shanghavi, Ottawa

My previously healthy Thinkpad T42, will not post.

Hi,
The Thinkpad T42 doesn't have a reset button on it like the older IBM's used to.

There could be a problem with the battery. With the machine turned off remove AC power and then the battery. Plug in AC power again and see if the laptop will boot without the battery.
If it boots let it load up as normal and then shut it down again, reinsert the battery and try to boot it up. If it boots fine, if not then there is a problem with the battery.

Please post back if you need anymore advice.

Good luck.

My ibm laptop contionusly beeps and says power scource is battery, when i press esc, it boots normally and shuts down in about 15 mins to half an hour

Either:
A. Bad battery
Or
B Bad power supply.

Sounds like the battery isnt charging correctly , the beeping is warning you it is running out of power.

Take the battery out , and boot normally with the ac adapter.

Does it work?

If yes, Get new battery. about 70-90 dollars.

If no. Get new ac adapter. 20-40 dollars.

IBM ThinkPad R40 No PowerUp

If the the ram is the problem of your system, there should be a power on light on the system. indicating that some of the component of the system is not working correctly. But since you mentioned there is no light, it is the possibility that the problem is the motherboard itself.
