Mitsubishi lt 52149 52 hdtv will not come on. Like no power. Smell burnt smell at top. Is this something I can possibly repair myself if handy?

You need to get this checked by a good mechanic SOON. Burning smell could be something simple or something Dangerous! Could you describe the smell? How strong is it? A 'Burnt Plastic' smell could be a serious one as this could be a wiring 'short' which if not sorted could cause an engine fire. **HOWEVER** Check the obvious stuff first!
Sometimes when you have topped up the engine oil any small spills can heat up with the engine and cause a smell. Usually a 'musty' burnt cooking oil smell
A sweet smell could be coolant. You can get this if a radiator hose or the radiator is leaking. You sometimes get this smell if the head gasket has 'blown'.

sounds like it was enough to pop something in the tv, smell the back of the tv smell if anything smells burnt or hot. unplug the tv and let stand for about a hour unplugged then trying it again but if it does smell chances are you will have to see if your still under warrenty and have the unit replaced.

sounds like a blown internal fuse. unless you are savvy with a soldering iron you'll need to take it to a TV repair man. i assume its out of its warranty period?

Where there is a smell something burned---my suggestion is have a shop look at the unit and get a repair estimate---you can try that yourself but taking apart correctly is not always easy and there is a chance you might cause more problems---even if you find burnt part/s you will not likely know what got them.

HI....Does the MOTOR works or rotates.If it still heres no problem with that...if you smell something bad on your machine there something wrong with the motor wires coil..possibly overloading can cause problem with the motor..motor will produce more power beyond its capacity then its coil becomes hotter that gradually burnt the coil.You can check by removing the back cover of the machine.Unscrew it properly.locate the motor as well as the shafting..If yuo smell something bad with the motor possibly coils got burnt. you can check both ends of the motor terminals using a MULTITESTER .Unplug first the machine set the MULTITESTER to OHMS to the lowest value ..Now if moves a little means there is no short circuit happened but if it does the moves its maximum value then it has been shpt circuited.The armature coils might been short circuited

If the power adapter that was plugged into it was too powerful it may have been fried. Unplug it and smell the power jack area. If it smells bad like it has been burnt then it is beyond repair unless done so by a service technician or other trained professional. If it doesn't smell bad, try leaving it powered off overnight and then try it with the correct power cord the next day.

Burnt smell = something failed the big way and melted. It's most likely in the y-sus board. To find out which board has been damaged beyond repair you must open the tv and look at them. Once you identify it take it out, read the part code that is printed on it and buy a replacement one - either directly from Dell or from one of the sites that deal in separate components.

This is very simple to repair if have burning parts smell,replaced parts that burning smell,the parts that cause by the burning smell part,make it to dies that hard to find.My sugestion replaced the DM power board,first to get power back,than go on from there.

your problem is probably the coupling that ataches the motor to the transmission , take the skirt of the washer off , take the motor off and you going to see the rubber coupling if is bad just change it , cheap part

Most like the capacitors on the inverter board or power supply are going leaky.. if you look at the board you will notice that the caps are puffed out at the top. replacing them if difficult and if you don't have the skill to replace them have a good tech do it.. repairing the board is much cheaper that replacing them.
As the caps get worse the set will stop cumming on.
