IP Filters IP filters block access to ports or a series of ports from an IP address on the LAN. For example, if you did not want the computer with IP address 192.168.0.100 to access the Internet, then you would block that IP address from accessing port 80. Step 1 Open a web browser and type the IP address of the wireless router in the address bar (default is 192.168.0.1). Press Enter. Step 2 The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click OK. Step 3 Click the Advanced tab and then click Filters to the left. Step 4 Select IP Filters using the radio buttons. Step 5 Select the Enabled radio button. Step 6 In the first field next to IP enter the IP address you want to block access from. If you want this to apply to a range of IP addresses, then enter the ending IP address in the second field. Step 7 In the first field next to Port enter the port you want to block. To block a range of ports, enter the ending port number in the second field. Then select the protocol type (TCP, UDP, or Both) using the drop-down list next to Protocol Type. Step 8 Next to schedule select Always using the radio buttons to continuously enable this filter, or select the From radio button to set a schedule using the time and day drop-down boxes below. Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue to save the new settings. URL Blocking URL Blocking is used to block web sites that contain certain keywords. Step 4 Select URL Blocking using the radio buttons. Step 5 Select Enabled using the radio buttons. Step 6 In the text box below enter a keyword to block. To delete a keyword, select it from the box below the text box, and click Delete. Step 7 Click Apply to add the keyword to the list. MAC Filters MAC Filters allow you to allow or deny access to the LAN by specifying MAC addresses. Step 2 The default username is admin (all lower case) and the (default password is blank (nothing). Click OK. Step 3 Click the Advanced tab and then click Filters to the left. Disabled - Disables this feature and will allow all wireless clients to connect. Allow - Blocks all clients except for what you enter in the list. Deny - Allows all clients except for what you enter in the list. Step 6 Enter the name used to identify the entry next to Name. Step 7 Enter the Ethernet MAC address that you wish to Allow or Deny next to MAC Address. Step 8 Click Apply and then click Continue to save the new settings. My Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router when connected shows that its an unsecurenconnection I

hi henryandjen

it might be that you have not yet setup your router with a wep or wpa key. you would need to setup an authentication method so that your router will be secured. you may try these steps to setup your router to be secured

  1. Begin setup of your Linksys Wireless Router by first plugging in the power. Give it 10 seconds or so to initialize and then plug an ethernet cable into your wall jack and into the port on the back of the router marked Internet. Next get another ethernet cable and plug one end into your laptop and the other into one of the ports labeled 1-4 on the router. Your computer is now properly connected to the router to begin its setup and configuration.
  2. Next open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. A window will pop up prompting you for a username and password to access the configuration page for your router. Enter admin for both the username and password.
  3. You should see the Setup page shown below.

    linksys01.jpg
Accessing the router settings through a web browser.

  4. On this screen you should change the Router Name from its default value to something unique so that your Base Station will not be confused with another. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Settings then click Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed.
  5. Next, click on the Wireless tab at the top of the settings screen. Change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from the default value to something unique (you can use the same name you set as your Router Name in the previous step. Then Disable the Wireless SSID Broadcast option and click Save Settings and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed.
  6. Now click on the Wireless Security subsection at the top of the page. In order to password protect your wireless network first use the Security Mode dropdown box to select WEP and then from the WEP Security dropdown box select 128 bits 26 hex digits. Choose a password between 6 and 8 characters and type it into the Passphrase box. Then click Generate. Finally click Save Settings and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed. You may also select WPA encryption, however not all network cards support this, so check your documentation first.
  7. Next click on the Wireless MAC Filter subsection at the top of the page. Then Enable the Wireless MAC Filter option and select the option to Permit only PCs listed to access the wireless network. Click on the Save Settings button at the bottom of the Filter List window and then Continue.
  8. Now click on the Edit MAC Filter List button to pop up a new window (shown below) where you will enter the MAC Address, also known as Physical Address, for each computer that you will be using to connect to your wireless network. If you don't know how to get this information follow the steps here. Once you have finished, click the Save Settings button at the bottom of the Filter List window and then Continue when the Settings are successful dialog is displayed. You may now close the Mac Address Filter List window.

Let me know if this helps. Thanks

To secure your wireless network and prevent unauthorized access you need to setup your wireless router with these settings :-
When you first setup your wireless router you should change the login password and then the wireless configuration, setup WAP or WAP2 encryption (WAP2 is the strongest encryption) and change the SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
For further wireless protection enable MAC address filtering. The MAC address of the wireless card in your computer is entered in the router MAC address filter table, which allows only the wireless card with this MAC address to connect to the wireless router.
Also if your router has a firewall then you should enable this feature.
The wireless card on the computer needs to be configured with the wireless router's settings. The LAN cable can be removed and the computer communicates wirelessly with the router.
