When the TV is turned on there is a @1.5 inch black strip along the top. I was told the TV has a way to adjust the screen. Is this true and is it something I can do by myself?

Is there any loss of height to the bottom side of the screen? You have only reported thet there is some less height to to top only. I've to confirm this, That is why I asks you. Hello=You haven't given me the details I asked you. Anyway, I posts this solution condsiderng that the black bar is on the top side of your TV screen. This is due to weak capacitors in the vertical output section circuit of your TV. Just open your TV, locate this section and replace all the capcitors [may be 5or 6 of them] with new ones of same capacity marked on it. When replacing these electrolytic capacitors, make sure their polarity. Electrolytic capcitors have both powitive and negative polarity. It will be marked on its body. Mark this side when you unsolder the capacitor out one by one and replace it. If the black bar is at the bottom of the screen also, check the solder terminals of the vertical output IC. Resolder all the solder terminals of that IV by applying a little more solder without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent terminals. If this does not help you, replace the vertcial output IC also with same type and number. These parts can be bought from most of the elcetronic sparepart shops at your town. Won't cost mor too.
