When the TV is turned on there is a @1.5 inch black strip along the top. I was told the TV has a way to adjust the screen. Is this true and is it something I can do by myself?

Is there any loss of height to the bottom side of the screen? You have only reported thet there is some less height to to top only. I've to confirm this, That is why I asks you. Plese note that is there is the same gap at the bottom of the screen also.

Hello=You haven't given me the details I asked you. Anyway, I posts this solution condsiderng that the black bar is on the top side of your TV screen. This is due to weak capacitors in the vertical output section circuit of your TV. Just open your TV, locate this section and replace all the capcitors [may be 5or 6 of them] with new ones of same capacity marked on it. When replacing these electrolytic capacitors, make sure their polarity. Electrolytic capcitors have both powitive and negative polarity. It will be marked on its body. Mark this side when you unsolder the capacitor out one by one and replace it. If the black bar is at the bottom of the screen also, check the solder terminals of the vertical output IC. Resolder all the solder terminals of that IV by applying a little more solder without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent terminals. If this does not help you, replace the vertcial output IC also with same type and number. These parts can be bought from most of the elcetronic sparepart shops at your town. Won't cost mor too. OK

For several weeks TV there was an 1 inch black strip across the top of the screen. Now the when you turn the TV and it switches back off

It could be because the cable cord in the back wasn't tightened all the way. This could also cause the screen to look fuzzy and un-clear.

Image on 'normal' setting isn't using full height of tv screen.

What you will need to do is grab your remote that came with the tv - click "Menu">select "Settings">go down to "Screen" and make sure that:

1. Wide Mode reads "Full"
2. Auto Wide reads "On"
3. Display Area reads "Full Pixel"

Hope that helps.

Green screen with red and blue wavy lines

This is "NOT" meant as "expert" advice...as this is not my area...HOWEVER...I see no one has answered this yet...AND I got some good help from here a year or so ago that worked for me!

When I had a similar "green screen" problem with my SONY projection tv...the guy helped me by having me make "MINOR" adjustments to the red/blue/green etc knobs behind the panel. These were three small black plastic pieces and needed less than a 1/16 of an inch adjustment...try adjusting one at a time and giving it few seconds after each adjustment. It worked for me..at least for a while (till my wife gave it away to a friend because it was "too big"...ah! women!!! LOL)...hope this helps. (NON-expert help!)

Sony plasma tv was working fine, now there is a large black strip going from the top of the screen to the bottom, about six inches long, where it only displays a black strip.

Post your problem in the right category with your model listed if the category doesn't already exist, so you can get relevant feedback.  As it is, clearly your TV got its connection along that column interrupted; carefully seek to clean and dry whatever fluid fell down the screen into the interface....

Vertical black line on screen

Your set has either a bad driver board or more likely a bad plasma panel.
