Same thing, but my keys are all messed up, so when I enter a 5, then a load of asterisks pop up on the screen

Will turn on - blinking cursor - no other keys work - recognized by TI connect

So the calculator has 5 columns of buttons, and only my FAR LEFT column doesn't work (with the exception of the On/Off and 2nd keys) So everything above the On/Off key and below the 2nd key in the far left column don't work. I have no idea what is wrong and water damage seems almost impossible because I have no idea when it has ever even come in contact with water.

I found a solution to my problem. I think water got into my I/O port and it shorted it. The way to fix it was to blow really hard into the I/O port or use compresed air.

TI84 dead

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen, especially when the batteries are changed, so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible. Does it?

If you go too far, press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the down-arrow key.

Hi, My TI 89 calculator just stopped working. I can't turn it on; I changed battery to brand new ones, but still dead. What can I do?

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and hold the diamond key, and press and hold the + key for a couple of seconds to see whether the screen darkens.

If this doesn't do it, please reply to this post and we can try something else.

Screen fully black

Black-Screen/Black-Pixel Fix for TI-Calculator

This will erase all memory and reset defaults.

1. Remove 1 AAA Battery
2. Press and Hold 'ON' for 30 seconds
3. Replace AAA Battery
4. Adjust Contrast to appropriate level

If this fails, try again with ALL Batteries removed including
the backup Lithium Battery.

If all else fails, try the following reset procedure:

1. Remove ALL Batteries (inc. Backup)
2. Let Calculator sit with no batteries for 2~4 hours.
3. Hold 'ON' for 30 seconds.
4. Replace all the batteries (May be good idea to use new batteries
just in case old ones were dead)
5. Turn on Calculator
6. Change Contrast to appropriate level

- Remember to use correct batteries or calculator may not work. The
correct batteries are Alkaline, Rechargable Batteries are TOO WEAK,
Heavy Duty batteries are TOO STRONG.

TI-84 Plus, Garbage Collecting.....

There is an easier way. No deleting anything involved. When you turn on your calculator and it says "Garbage Collecting" take out all 4 AAA batteries. Then, either put those same 4 back in, or replace them with 4 new ones. Then, hold down the -CLEAR- button, and then at the same time, press on. If your batteries are almost dead, nothing will pop up but it will look like the screen is kind of flashing. New batteries will fix that problem in a jiffy, and then brand new calculator :) Worked for me, hope this helps!

Display is so light that I can barely read it, I've replaced the batteries and no change

Have you attempted darkening the display on the calculator through the function keys? Push "2nd" and then push "up" a few times. After resetting the calculator, this setting will always revert to a lower, unreadable setting. I'm sure TI knows about this, but they probably arent too inclined to fix it.
