1. You only should have one check valve; the one in the water is best, remove the other if you can.
2. Make sure there are no leaks in any of the piping between the water and the pump inlet.
3. Take the pump apart, thoroughly clean the new seal, the two halves of the pump that go under the metal band, the inside of the metal band.
4. Lubricate the new seal, the outer sides of the pump halves where the metal band squeezes together, the inside of the metal band where it contacts the halves and even the screw on the tightening device using petroleum jelly (Vaseline) or equal. Make sure the pump literature does not recommend against whatever you use.
5. Reassemble.
6. Fill the pump with water, open the discharge on top of the pump if possible and prime.
Normally, a pump, even with a long run will prime in 5 minutes or less.
Write back.

1. Note #2 above.
2. I have never seen a pump with two check valves. Flotec may have no issue with it, but you are having trouble priming and that would add to the problem. I would not remove a check if it is not easy.
3. The seal may be leaking as you describe, but the pump should still prime in a few minutes. This leak should not stop the priming operation. Leaks in the suction line will, however.

The FixYa site is difficult to work with. I looked for a response from you late last night, and missed you, thus the delay. I think the leak you talk about is the pump seal (between the moving shaft and the stationary body. What did the rebuild kit have?
Has this pump run before?
How high is it from the surface of the lake to the pump inlet?
Normally, if you fill the pump with water, the inlet pipe fills as the water flows down to the lake and the air comes to the pump leaving very little "priming" to be done.

I noticed that the drips are coming from the area closer to the motor and not from the metal seal opening. What does this mean? Do I need a pump rebuild kit?
As for the check valve, Flotec did not see an issue with this, even thought it was a good idea.
form the lake I have direct connection to the check valve to the pump. there are no other bends or connections. I will go to the store and purchase a 2" treadeded to 2" water pipe and eliminate the check valve. Why is the pump leaking by the motor? What is in there? Could the buildup of presure have broken something?
theorignal leak oraund the metal band now seems to be a leak by the pump motor. what is the reason? Can this prohibit prime?
Gary,
I'm not sure where my replies are but...
I have the water intake coming directly into the pump WITHOUT the check valve. I installed the pump rebuild kit, there is still a leak by the motor NOT the metal ring and I still can't get prime.
How do I stop the leak by the motor.
As well.. I feel no water coming into the pump when I put my hand on the intake filter
I removed the check valve and have the water intake directly entering the pump. I also installed the pump over hall kit. I still have a leak by the motor, not the metal ring and cannot get prime.
