Re: What is Gaming Mode on my D-Link router?

Gaming Mode allows a form of pass-through for certain Internet games. If you are using XBOX, Playstation2, or a PC and have problems with your Internet games, make sure you are using the latest version of the firmware and that Gaming Mode is enabled. If you are not using an application that requires this type of pass-through, it is recommended that you disable Gaming Mode. Gaming Mode basically changes the way the gateway inspects the packets destined for your LAN and should be not used unless necessary.

I have an xbox and a ps3 and my xbox has terrible connection to the wifi and my ps3 is connected to the router and has even worse connection thn my xbox! how do i improve my inteernet connection to my...

Sometimes when this happens to my PS3 or Xbox, I turn off my routers for at least 10 seconds then start back up again. Another way to rule out that it is indeed your gaming systems and not lag with your internet connection, I recommend that you run a bandwidth test from your PC first. This will give you an initial understanding of your internet performance. If your Bandwidth test returns a result of a slow connection, this will have a direct impact on your gaming experience. Here is a link to test your bandwidth (or internet connection speed.)

Note: anything below 1mb on your download speed will cause your gaming experience to be poor.
I recommend 3+ meg for optimal performance.

I hope this information helps you.

How do you dis-able gaming mode feature?

Log into your router.
-> Open the "Tools" tab -> Click on the "Misc." button on the left size.
You will see the opion to disable the "Gaming Mode" the 5th one down. The color is a bit faded blue but you can see it just under "UPNP Settings".
-> Mark it on "Disabled" then hit "Apply" at the buttom of the page.
I usually recomment "Reboot" after you clicked "Apply". (Button at the top of the same page you are on).
Good luck.

Secure network

The best thing is to take it to Geek Squad to have them configure it. They have a fee but it will be easiest.

If not,

Open Internet Explorer or Firefox, Type in either or

Select where it says wireless, select WAP 2.
Set a password.

Make sure your computer recognizes the settings to. Go to wireless settings on your computer and change them to the same as above. Let me know if you need further information.
