You cannot have 2 routers on the same system, you will cause ip address conflicts as each router is a gateway and gives your pcs their ip addreses

Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

My linksys wrt120n will not reconize the road runner modem when the ethernet cable is hooked up to it

This router has lot of issues with the firmware. Firmware is the software of the router. First thing you need to do is upgrade the firmware of the router.
If you connect your computer directly to the modem it will go online. Download the firmware of the router from the web site www.linksys.com/download .

Now connect the computer and the modem to the router. open the router set up page. upgrade the firmware. After upgrading the firmware, reset the router for 30 seconds . Unplug the power and plug it back in. wait for 1 minute and reconfigure the router.

Reset the router for 30 seconds. unplug the power and plug it back in. wait for 1 minute and now try to reconfigure the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

I am not able to properly set up my network with an ASUS Wl-500B

Both routers need to be on the same IP scheme and subnet i.e. 192.168.0.X subnet 255.255.255.0. First, unplug the Asus router. Next, make sure you have connection to the internet by hooking directly to the Apple router. Once you've established a connection to the internet plug the Asus router into the Apple router but go LAN port to LAN port.

2 wire router and Comcast

Cable from modem gets inserted into router port named WAN/Internet
from router you should have a cable going into back computer ethernet port.
once inserted, input router IP address into an address bar (IE or My Computer) eg. 192.168.1.1 --- to find out what your router I is:
Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig /all --- router ip would be listed as Default Gateway or DHCP server
Once logged into router, go to Properties page of router config and perform a Release and Renew of router's ip

Netgear router

I'm not sure this is the issue but it is worthy of review. Routers are designed to separate networks or more properly subnets assuming you have the wan side of one router connected to the ISP and the wan side of the other router connected to the first router. You have two subnets in your house and they cannot be addressed the same. If the lan side of each router is addressed as 192.168.0.1 you have a duplicate IP address confusing situation that could well cause the devices to completely shutdown as you indicate. The first step of the resolution is fairly simple configure the LAN side of the second router to have 192.168.2.1 as its address. Assuming further that both subnets have masks of 255.255.255.0. The first router's subnet is 192.168.0 and the second router's subnet is 192.168.2 -- they are different and that is correct. The WAN side of the first router is configured correctly or it would not have worked with the satellite. The WAN side of the second router needs an address in the first routers subnet such as 192.168.0.2 if you wish to statically assign it. However this can successfully be defaulted to a dynamic IP address too. Configured in the stated manner the routers should work successfully. They can both have DHCP enabled for their own subnets. Computers hooked to the second subnet could still fail to access the internet if they lack suitable DNS addresses either provided by the router or statically configured in the wireless adapter configuration.

A second alternative would be to have a lan port on the second router attached to a lan port of the first router. now you have a single subnet and have effectively dumbed down the second router to being either a switch or a hub not bad. However there are issues here too. If you did not shutdown DHCP services on the second router you could have two routers competing to assign duplicate addresses to machines as they join the network which will make for unreliable and somewhat random failures of the networks to service attached machines -- so turn off DHCP on the second router. Should the second router have a static IP address on the wan side make sure it is unique and not in the first router's subnet. The lan side of the second router should be assigned a unique address in the first routers subnet although it will not really be used for anything.
