You must have a trojan or virus, you hopefully have an antivirus programme installed, which you will need to run in safe mode (F8 on boot up and select safe mode) and then restart your system.

you may need to run again but this time turn off system restore in my computer >properties; incase the trojan backed itself up, then run the anti virus, as before then turn system restore back on.

Slow Windows Launch

Many causes for slow boot up or response is from malware and viruii.

Download and install Malwarebytes (Free version) from: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ You can allow the free 30 day Pro mode if you like (this program is ~$20 for a lifetime license and is highly recommended!).

Let it update the malware database. Then select "Quick Scan" and let it run. Depending on size of your HD, it may take up to 10 or more minutes to complete. You should delete everything it finds - except for cookies (if you want) and anything you recognize as "safe".

Check your antivirus software. Is it running? Is it up to date? If not, start it & update as needed. Have it perform a memory scan / quick scan / etc. and delete its findings too.

Reboot. If still slow, you might want to do a Safe Boot or boot from a Start Up disk and re-run those tests - possible selecting FULL scans instead.

Good luck!

All kind of problems with IE8. Have Xp, Missing toolbar, freezes, slow, won't let me do hardly anything. Preparing to install box flashes before connecting to just about everything I try do. So stressed....

delete that iE8!
Problem lies where u DOWNLOADED it from!
Ussually some sites where u downloaded it comes with their additional TOOLBARS and SEARCH engine that makes ur computer slows down!
I got the faster one from Yahoo itself!
That might help u!

I have a NASCAR themed pc and although it runs fine it is very slow and it didn't used to be. I have cleaned out all the spyware and adware. I have checked and double checked for viruses. So far there is...

Hello,

As far as cleaning up the operating system, it sounds like you have already done mostly everything. I do have a completely free program that would take care of the last two things, system junk files, and registry errors.

Other than that, the one thing which would help the most is adding more memory to your PC. Would not cost much and is the easiest piece of hardware to install. Takes less than 5 minutes to do.

Thank you for choosing Fixya.

Laptop boots slow

Hi,

A couple of reasons why any PC will boot slowly:
1. slow processor, low memory, slow hard drive;
2. too many programs starting up. Pls try goto Start, Run, in next small window, type "msconfig" less the quotes, OK. In next window, click on the "Startup" tab, un-check everything (except perhaps your anti-virus or anything else you think is important). Click on buttons, Apply and then OK. If for some reason you would like to return some programs back, you can always go back and check them.
3. it would also be of great help to check for any possible virus or malwares (download , install and run Ad-Aware).

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
