The mitsubishi projection tv ws-55511 is not staying on when you press the power button either on the tv or the remote. The green light comes on, but turns off with a click right away and stays off with no other lights coming on.

    Thanks for help

Could it be a power supply problem, would that cause the turning off so quickly. thanks for your input about the capacitors, but it feel it it something else, but thanks for your input.

  • ewires Sep 07, 2008

Right, the Projection tv has no picture or sound and is on for less then a sec.

  • ewires Sep 08, 2008

This is a five yr old projection tv, never had any problems until now and only with the issue of turning on for less then a sec. and then turning off with a clicking sound, could this be (1) a fuse problem, the only fuse that I could see was ok. (2) Power supply problem (3) Bad switch, or (4) a monster in the tv., Help

  • ewires Sep 08, 2008

what would be the best way to check out the power supply with a volt meter or any other method to see if this really is the problem. Thanks

  • ewires Sep 08, 2008

Please say this one more time. I did not understand the answer.... Thanks

  • ewires Sep 09, 2008

I took the back off of the tv and could only find 1 fuse and it was not shorted out. where else do I look and how do I check out the power supply and any other items that you all think it might be. Where can I buy a power supply for the Mits projection tv. Please read my other comments for the rest of the story. Thanks

  • ewires Sep 09, 2008

The Mits is either a 2003 or a 2004 model yr. out of warranty.

  • ewires Sep 09, 2008

There seems to be others with a similar problem listed on this web site so I know that this is not the first one of its kind to happen with the unit turning on and then turning off within a half of a second with a clicking sound. the green light comes on and then goes off with the unit, no flashing, just on then off. Help

  • ewires Sep 09, 2008

Could it be the power supply that would be doing this aswell.

The problem is the convergence circuit, in order to fix this issue you will need to replace an entire circuit board, the cost to do this is most likely more than the tv is worth, the new LCD"s are cheap, replace it, you will not regret the decision.

If you know how, chek the horizontal output transistor for a shorted condition. If that is ok, the likely defect is the convergence circuit. Try resoldering the 2 convergence ICs (STK393-110) that are attached to a heatsink. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. Also in the same area, check the pico fuses that have the board designation: F9A01-F9A06. If any of those measure infinity using an ohmmeter, replace them as well.

It must be hardware problem. if you tried all the solutions here and nothings work then send it to repair service. when did you bought your tv? it should have a warranty service for this.

The condition of your TV called power supply overcurrent shutdown. The TV is going into a protection mode to prevent further circuit damage. That's why it will not turn on or not powering up. I would concentrate on the power supply section board. Bad regulation of the incoming voltage could caused this issue although, there is a capacitor across the incoming line and nuetral.Maybe its leak or dry up and cause the problems, change it out with one of identical rating .I would probably also check the flyback circuit and flyback transformer although now you are getting into dangerous area, especially if you have no electronic experience background. It could be also be a loose ,crack or cold solder joint,a blown fuse, fusible links or other component .It could be one of several boards.Unfortunately the level of sophistication on these TV make it virtually impossible to diagnose them further without taking them apart and probing around with a multimeter and other tools. This TV is handy enough to take to a repair shop find a good one.You will probably have to pay $75 to $100....

Hope this may help you..

So there is no picture or audio I assume when you turn it on?

Then it is most likely a problem with the power supply. It could be a number of things but basically somewhere in the power supply circuitry there is a problem, something most likely burnt out and if you are electronically inclined, then you should be able to find the problem rather quickly, if not, then I suggest finding someone who is to make this much easier otherwise see if anything looks or smells burnt or abnormal to start with in the power supply.

Just an option that I would like to have you check. I have had experieces wherein this problem is because of some capacitors not holding a charge or leaking. Use a multitester to check the capacitors especially the ones going to the main control module on the board.

  • Anonymous Sep 07, 2008

Possibly a power supply problem yes, but that would only be the case if the power supply does not give a constant supply of power. to test that you can check with a multimeter to see if the power remains constant even after it turns off. if there is still power after the turning off then that is not the problem.

    Robert

i admit i did not comprehend your question properly but i'll do some research and attempt to resolve the issue

  • Anonymous Sep 07, 2008

it would appear from the research i've done that the issue is the convergence board.

Fault with main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Picture stays on black

I had this same exact issue yesterday. I own the same TV model and here is what SONY had me do to get the picture back. Ultimately the picture comes back, but it will be very dim and needs repair. Most likely a power supply issue. Try these steps:

-Press power off or leave with standby light on for 5 minutes (wait the full 5 minutes)
-Unplug TV / Press top buttons 5 times each to remove static from system boards (yes, each button 5 times each)
-Wait one full minute and plug TV in and press power on

Screen says attention no signal

Your TV is probably on the PC mode and you are not using it as a PC monitor.

You need to change the source by pressing the TV/Video button on the remote control or the SOURCE button on the TV itself. You may also just press the channel up or down buttons. Do this before the TV goes to standby mode (amber light) or while it shows the message: ATTENTION NO SIGNAL.

If it does not work, reboot the TV first and do this again.
