Replacing a backlight is better left to the experts of experts - it is very, very, very specialized. On these models, a dim screen can also be a dead inverter - I'd try replacing that first. If replacing the inverter doesn't solve it, then just replace the screen. Don't even think about replacing the tube yourself.

Hi
Once before I had a similar Toshiba come into the shop. Try turning the unit on without the battery installed and on the good Toshiba charger. The computer batteries have a minimal current level and once power has gone below this level they will cause all kinds of problems. If the Toshiba now works, you're home free - just replace the battery. If it doesn't work then it will have to see a reputable repair person who can troubleshoot chip issues. I've seen these clone power supplies do all kinds of things to computers.

Turning on issue

Yes it will work, just make sure you remove the battery when the computer is shutdown and unplugged.

Plug it back in after the removal and you should be good to go!

I do that with all of my laptops because they are usually on 24/7 and I don't want to beat up the battery life with the constant charge.

Need to replace keyboard on my Toshiba Satellite 1410-s173. How do I gain access? Which screws should be removed and which should be left alone?

The plastic strip above the keyboard - you need to remove it (start by using a small, flat screwdriver and using the Windows key as leverage). After that, it's three screws (L, middle, R), then set it upside down over the touchpad, and disconnect the cable by lifting the connectors up.

That oughta do it!

Toshiba Satellite no wireless and want it

Your 1415 has a mini-PC card slot for an internal WiFi card. Bottom, right hand side, in the back. Buy a mini-PCI WiFi card, click it in, connect the antennas, and you're good to go.

If you dunno which card to get, this will always work: model MPC13A-20/R. Around $10 on ebay.

Of course, USB will always work but it sticks out like a sore thumb and it's cumbersome!

Hold down the Esc key when you turn on the system. Assuming your Esc key works, that'll trigger a "Hit F1 to continue.." message and take you into the BIOS.
