You need to reset the router settings to work with a cable modem. If you don't have the original instructions that came with the router the easiest way to do it would be to hold the reset button down on the back of the router for 30 seconds (use a paperclip or some other pointed object). After that it will just start working by itself but it will not have any wireless security set up. To do that you log in to the router via your web browser. Open Internet Explorer (or whatever you use for internet browsing), type in the address 192.168.1.1. The username and password for that modem I believe is username: admin password: (blank). It should be printed on the bottom of the router as well. Then just follow the set up wizard.

Hiee I am using netgear N300 jwnr2000 router. The router worked fine for few days it has suddenly stooped working.Any of my wierless devices are not able to detect my router since the wifi in been...

Unplug both your DSL/Cable Modem, and the Router from power. Wait 30 seconds. Plug in power to DSL/Cable Modem only, and wait for it to connect. then plug in power to Router, and wait for it to start up. Give it about 1 min. If the lights are still not on, you may need to reconfigure your router. If this does not work, connect your cable/DSL modem to your computer directly, and power cycle it again. Once it is online, check to see if you can get online, if you cannot, contact your internet service provider, as you have ruled out a problem with the router.

I just switched from cable modem to dsl modem..dsl modem gets on the internet when connected directly to computer..once connected to router doesnt connect to internet

Your new ISP is DSL. the router was working before with the cable modem. The settings for the cable and DSL ISP are different. Now your computer is working when you connect it directly to the DSL modem. that means the modem is working.
The DSL modem works on 2 different modes.
You will need to check which mode is your modem working on and according to the settings of your modem you will need to set up the router.
To change the settings of the router, you will need to open the set up page of the router.
Click Here for more information about the router set up.

Lost setup dvd

Don't worry about the lost cd. Router will still work even without the setup disc. What is the model # of your router? What is your internet provider, Cable or DSL? For cable ISP, you'll just need to connect the Cable Modem to the Internet port on the back of the router, and your PC connect it to port number 1 on the router as well. Now try to power cycle all devices by unplugging the power to the router and the modem. Wait for 30 secs. Power on the cable modem first and wait for the lights to go steady then power on the router. Check if the internet works fine. If you're on DSL, you can do the same steps first. Otherwise, post your feedback.

-- is the router working fine before or is it a brand new router

you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router

Step 1: Shutdown the computer.
Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable.
Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds.
Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable.
Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable.
Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings
Step 7: test the Internet connection.

if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router

Belkin router

I just worked on one of these today. Try this and see if it helps.

1. Unplug your cable or DSL modem and your wireless router

2. Plug back in the cable or DSL modem and wait for the internet to successfully connect (watch the lights).

3. Plug the wireless router back in again and wait for it to connect (again, watching the lights)

If this doesn't work, make sure you have the equipment plugged-in in the right order.

cable or dsl signal goes to modem ==> modem plugs into wireless router ===> computer plugs into wireless router.
