The clicking is the the head trying to read or park in the drive, this is unrepairable, you have to replace the drive

Clicking noise

the 'clicking' sound might be a defective hard drive, which also explains some of those other issues.seems that perhaps a local computer tech can easily identify that, and then you may need to do a hard drive recovery exercise to recover hard data.

My dell Optiplex GX270 will not start up. it gets to the microsoft xp loading screen and it begins to load but then it restarts. it gives me a message "the primary IDE master hard-drive self...

Sad to say, you need a hard drive. The clicking sound you're hearing is typical of a drive that has gone bad. The monitoring message you see is from the motherboard's SMART monitoring, which checks several drive parameters and tells you when something is out of normal range. Often this gives some advance warning of a drive going bad, but this time it's just another sign the drive is already bad.

Installing a new hard drive is quite simple, with only two cables to plug in and some screws holding the drive in place. You will need to reinstall Windows and your applications since the new drive will be blank. There isn't anything you can do to repair the bad drive. If you have data on the drive that you don't have backed up on some other medium and you must have, there are companies that offer data recovery services. Just be aware it can be expensive.

Sorry I can't give you better news, but thanks for using Fixya.

My disk drive is not loading on my Toshiba laptop

i am guessing you have windows xp installed
in your control panel go to admin tools computer management.Open disk management right click rescan all drives it should but your drive back. the computer think you hard disk is a removable drive.
if this did not fix then you have a regestery problem which is very hard to repair because messing around it there can cause windows to stop totally if the wrong files are changed.
