You may just need a good computer tune up. First and most importantly, I would not buy ANY of the tune up software advertised on TV or on thousands of websites. Most of them are less than useful and you can do a better job manually.

One of the first things I do is in Windows, click Start > Run > type in "msconfig" without the quotes and press Enter. Go to the Startup tab and disable just about everything there, I leave only the antivirus running on startup. This does no harm to the computer and you can manually start any of these programs if you want it to run. But having tons of programs start up every time you start the computer will weigh it down a lot. You can always run msconfig again to put the check mark back if you want a program to run on startup.
