Hi, I have a problem with ti-nspire cx cas, it doesn't charge via a usb cable.

Are you really talking about a TINspire CX or a TI NSpire. The TINspire CX (CAS or Not) comes with a rechargeable battery and an adapter/Charger. You plug the charger in an electric outlet and let it party charge. If the calculator battery fails to recharge then it must be defective. Any third party mini USB charger will recharge the battery.

The TINspire with touchpad (CAS or not) can use regular batteries or the optional rechargeable battery.
It is not necessary to connect the calculator to a computer to have it recharged.

As far as the calculator being recognized by the computer, you must install the communication software (TI computer Link Software for the older TINspire) or the TI Nspire teacher or student software for the CX. When you run the TINspire teacher or student software and then connect the calculator, you will have the opportunity to select it.

Serious question My clac teacher last year installed the newest operating system for my calculator (2.53 or 2.55), and I love it. However, for my college calc class, before every test, they reset the...

You'll still have the new operating system. Reseting the memory simply clears out any programs and apps you may have loaded. Reseting will not affect the operating system.

Bob stole my calc. do you have any practical sugetions on calc retrieval?

What? Is bob a bully that took your calculator? If so, tell your teachers and they will make the bully give it back, and if he doesn't, you can sue him :) That should sort him out.

My daughter is starting 6th grade and they have asked her to get a T1-30XA or TI-83/TI-84, she is not advanced in math. Which on would you recommend ?

The Ti83/84PLUS are a lot more advanced than the TI-30XA because thaeu can graphs, statistics, calculus etc. But they lack a key for the % function, and a key for the fraction manipulation, the angle unit conversions (deg, radians, et grads) and they are a lot more expensive than the TI30XA.

Before your daughter finishes high school, you will eventually have to buy her a graphing calculator but right now a TI83/84Plus calculator seems like overkill. Besides some teachers may not let students have graphing calculators during exams.

Honestly I suggest you buy the TI-30XA Solar version. There are some new nifty calculators manufactured by Casio (Casio FX-115ES, FX-991ES, FX-300ES), Sharp (El-506W, 516W ). The beautiful thing about these new kinds of calculators is that you can configure them to use the Textbook display: equations and expressions can be entered as they would appear in textbooks. The Casios are called Natural Display and the Sharps are know as WriteView models.
In fairness to Texas Instruments, they too have calculators that incorporate that display format but I do not know the exact model numbers (maybe TI34XII multiview).
