My set was still under warranty when it started snapping and popping, particularlly when watching hdtv. I've had someone out 3 times to look at it, but to no avail. I had two of the three boards in it replaced, but a month or two ago, it started popping again. If I turn the volume down to zero, the popping stops. Any ideas???

The lamp is most likely needing replacement. Replaceing the lamp is a very easy proceedure on that model.I am pasting a pic where the lamp cover is located on rear cover. Remove the screw and the lamp is behind the lamp door.
im srry to tell you that you picture tube blew in you tv this can happen from many things as simple as a defective one .. to a bad power surge in your house ... if it is under warranty they will fix free of charge .. if not you'll have to get a new tv .. a new tv in most cases is cheaper then tryin to just by the tube .. oh and if its not under warranty .. you could always just say it surged and claim it on you home owners insurance =]
The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT's.....you may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......
Turn down the volume and see if you still hear it,a loud pop or snap could be high voltage call your servicer in your area ASAP
while its under warranty and have him check the high voltage circuits for a intermittenting pop or snap. And have the model # ready!! Good Luck!
It sounds like the lamp is definitly bad.
Look at it and more than likely it is broken.
The lamp is located in the front of the set. The bottom front is a cover that has a dial on each side of the back of the sets that can be turned by hand (counter clockwise) holding the front panel in place.
There is a metal strip that is holding a door in place and can be removed.
The lamp is being held in place by a screw that needs to be removed with an allen wrench.
There are several places that you can buy lamps online.

#1 When I turn on the TV the power button comes on then blinks 6 times then goes off for a few seconds then repeats the cycle. I have sound over my surround system during this time but no picture.
#2 My sound would crackle and pop every once and a while until now it does nothing. I have to watch it with the surround sound on.
This sounds like a classic High Voltage problem. Yes the two issues are related. Something in the High Voltage circuit has failed and originally caused the increased size. If you described the problem to the warranty people I'm surprised that they didn't recognize the problem and fix it under warranty. Now you have a short or partial short in the same circuit causing the fault (light blinking) after a few minutes. This problem will not cure itself. As I have told customers in the past "Electronics are not human and will not heal themselves". Maybe in the future, but not yet. You need a technician and it should be covered under warranty if things are as you described. I would recommend calling Panasonic customer service. They are usually a very good customer oriented company.
