We purchased this tv in april 2000 and absolutely love it. we have had no problems until now. the problem started with turning it on we would get a small concave looking picture with pink and green around in and the picture would eventually come on. the picture eventually started to pop in and out, and now the picture won't come on at all.
We would like to know what the problem is, can we fix it, or do we need someone to come here to fix.

Horizontal deflection is not working in TV and defective Fly-back Transformer or Horizontal Output Transistor can be cause of this symptoms. TV is in safety mode so you cant get picture and sound.

When you turn the plasma on do you get a solid indicator light on the front of the tv? You also get sound just fine, but a blank screen and no picture. I'm still looking for a definite answer, but I repaired a Hitachi 42edt41a that had the exact same problems. On that plasma there was an X-sustain board and a Y-sustian board that needed to be replaced. Hopefully someone else can give their assistance as well.
There is no permanent fix for Sony's Rear Projection TV's. I have a KDF60XS955. I've had two optical engines go out. This an engineering problem. I refuse to pay for yet another engine as it cure the problem. I love the TV when it's working properly. I have tried working with Sony for a replacement to no avail. They want me to buy another one of their sets. I will have to buy another set but it won't be Sony they don't stand behind their products. I haven't had a full year of service out of this product since it was purchased. I have filed complaints with the FTC, my State Attorney Generals Office, Consumer Protection Agency.org, and joined the Robert Lax class action lawsuit.
You need to provide more information. Does it turn itself back on? Bottom line is I don't think you are going to find an easy fix for it, most likely you will have to ship it to a service repair facility.
Now the cold truth - Most plasma TV's are very expensive to repair, and probably will cost the same as what you paid for it. Buying cheap is not always the best, next time stick with a namebrand plasma like Panasonic, Samsung, or Sony. It may cost a little bit more in the beginning but in the long run it will cost you less. There is nothing wrong with buying a cheap ILO tv, but stick with 19" system that you won't be upset with if it breaks (throw away tv)
It sounds like a convergence problem to me also. The average cost to repair this TV is around $450.00-$500.00.
Call another service company that is factory authorized to service your TV. Also, try calling your manufacture and explaining your concerns and ask if will pay for repair or at least for the parts. Have model, serial numbers and purchase date at hand.
