I turn it on. Three seconds later, it turns off. Why?

Hi Claire,
This is a case of backlight failure. Some of the LEDs in the backlight array have failed. Repairing this fault needs high level of expertise and practice.
Good luck.

I have a korg pa50sd, but its lcd brightness is too high..how to control this? it is very difficult to read?

There is no adjustment to control the brightness in korg pa50/sd.
It is hardware problem.
-Is the white backlight that is too high?
or
-normal backlight, but words is too dim?

Both of that case, can be caused by damage / change of voltage control for lcd. Perhaps there are parts that are damaged or have changed in value. Typically capacitors etc.
If the backlight is too bright, then the damage is in backlight controller, may transistor or an inverter transformer.
Proceed with the repairs to the experts.

No picture at all on my Bravia (4yrs old) but have sound, I suspect it's a problem with the backlight.

Usually in that case the problem is the backlight. There is no supply in the backlights cause of loose connection because the backlight have high voltage. The connector of the backlights at the board or driver supply is loosen. So its better to check the connection and resolder or fix the connection.Thanks..

Motorola Razr V3a Backlight Stays On

From the manual, p. 31:
"BACKLIGHT
Set the amount of time that the display and
keypad backlights stay on, or turn off backlights
to extend battery life.

Find it: (on menu) > Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight"

No power

This is a common problem across many monitors, unfortunately. The problem stems from one of two things, typically.

It is either the Power Inverter board (Inverter Mirage Electronics AD-1700 Rev:F 200-000-170DTL1 VERSION:A) or a weak or dying backlight.

If your monitor comes on for 2 seconds then you can test the backlight by using the controls to get into the backlight brightnes settings on the OSD and turning it WAY down.

If that dosen't work then it is likely bad capacitors on the Power board mentioned above. If you feel adventurous and know how to solder then you might be able to fix this yourself. You need to be careful however because you are dealing with high votage in there and capacitors CAN hold a charge long after you have unpluged the unit. You can read more about this power board as well as how to replace the bad caps HERE.

If that's not for you then I would recomend taking it to a local TV shop for them to fix. The parts shouldn't be more than $20, but labor can be expensive.

Or you could replace the monitor. You can get some nice ones from Newegg.com from around $100. Remember to recycle PC parts responsibly!

Could it be a bug in the system with flat screens.

Series Back Light

It is possible that by holding the power button down too long, that you turned off the backlight. When you hold down the power button, a menu eventually comes up with "Backlight Off" highlighted. The easiest way to undo this, is to simply do a soft reset. Or, you can hold down the power button again, and "Backlight On" will be highlighted (if there's enough ambient light you can see this message); just tap it, and the backlight will come on again. Also check out your backlight settings by tapping: [Start][Settings]tab[System][Backlight] the tab [Battery Power] should be highlighted; adjust as desired. Next tap the tab [External Power]; adjust as desired. Finally, tap the tab [Brightness] and make sure the sliders are high enough.
