Re: connecting old palm vx with serial output tought usb
Hi,
Few Things that you may do to fix this problem:
1. Is the "Local Serial" checked when you click the hot sync icon in the PC tray?
2. Look for ?hotsyncheck? at palm.com maybe this can help.
hope this will help'

Sorry, I figured it out, it was because the serial to usb adapter i was using needed a driver, and then my computer recognizes it as an extra serial port. So, during installation it needed to be searched for automatically from my serial ports.
Assuming you are running Palm OS and not one of the rare beta Windows Mobile versions, here is my take on this.
Are you using a USB or Serial Sync cable? With either solution, make sure that the setting on the Palm Desktop Hotsync Manager is set to the correct setting (either USB, Serial, IR, etc). Conflicts between the cable type and the settings on your PC are common.
I prefer using USB cables since they are faster and you can tell if you are connected quicker than with a serial cable. Initiate the sync via your phone or the Palm Desktop Manager software. I have had faulty cable sync buttons and this was a good solution for me. If you haven't tried a new sync cable, you might want to.
Actually if you have time and a laptop, you can take your Treo to a Palm store and borrow one of their cables to try and sync. They were really helpful whenever I went in there.
I just bought a new laptop and upgraded to V.6. Since I have always used a magic box I didn't know how to attach my bernina 170 directly to the laptop. My bernina dealer said that I would first need a serial to usb adapter since my machine is old enough that it doesn't have a usb port on it. Make sure it doesn't have the screws on the serial part because they will not allow you to attach it to the machine. He also said that I may have to make a new com port as most pc laptops only show 4. I did a search of the computer and found how to make a new com port. A little more fiddleing around with the laptop and cables and restarting both then it somehow recognized that I had made a new com port. Voila. It now works. (I am a Mac person). Hope this helps. margaret
This is a common issue, you might want to try these, in hope 1 of them will work:
- make sure there's no problem in the configurations of the devices and their both connection is to USB.
- there's probably a collision with anther device that is connected to the palm, try doing uninstall to everything, do a hard reset, run " activesync" or " hotsync" and reconnect.
- there's maybe a problem in the drivers, try reinstall them.
- if you are using 3.16 pm, there's probably a collision
I think it?s a common problem. You?re welcome to try the next options, in hopes of one of them working out:
1. Make sure there is no problem in the settings and that in both computers the connection is set to USB.
2. There may be a clash between this connection and another component that is connected to the Palm. Try uninstalling everything, hard resetting and running Hotsync or Activesync, and reconnecting the units.
3. There might be a problem in the drivers, try reinstalling them.
4. If you are using PM 3.16, there might be a clash.
First open the HotSync custom menu, start changing conduits to do nothing. Work your way down the list until you end up with a complete HotSync. If you still have the 6410 error, unplug the USB adapter, replug and try your HotSync again. The USB adapter may be the week link in this equation.
