Since I don't know exactly what model you have I can only suggest you call the Pentair technical support at 800-693-0971 andthey should be able to help you figure this issue out.
The laterals inside the filter that hold the sand in and allow the water thru are failing and need to be replaced. For further assistance I'd need to know the brand and model of the filter. You may have some luck with a local pool store being able to help you once you have that information in hand. It is generally recommended that you replace the sand at the same time you replace the laterals since you need to get the sand out of the filter to change out the part anyway.
Usually this means that the flue temperature sensor indicates too high a temperature. this is usually caused by too low water flow through the heater and therefore both the water and the flue temperature is too hot. You should check all the baskets, the pump impeller, the filter and any return devices to make sure water can flow at full rate. It is unlikely but maybe the flue temperature or control board is defective. If all else fails you may be able to call the Pentair technical support line to help diagnose the problem. I hop this helps.
Total alkalinity can be lowered by adding muriatic acid or
sodium bisulfate. Acid may be added in doses of up to 1 quart per 10,000 gallons. Total
alkalinity tests and further required additions of acid can be made every 2 hours.
I don't know why yours is giving you this indication but I have seen one do this when its DE filter needed to be backwashed. I am guessing that anything that restricts flow could cause this issue. I hope this helps.
