My dryer also takes 3-4 hours to dry. I need to check the heating element but don't know where it is.

PROBLEM: Dryer takes 3-4 hours to dry a load. Use to take 30-45 minutes.

The heating eliment was not the problem. I removed the hose off the back of the dryer as it was clogged. I went up on the roof and cleaned out the vent. I stuck a leaf blower to the pipe inside the house and blew out all the lint. Tons of lint came out of the vent pipe. Turned the dryer on, it now dries clothes in 30 minutes just like it did when it was new. Problem is solved. Thanks for your help.

you asked where the heat sensor was located, not that it took 3 or 4 hrs to dry. that was your original question. so don't rate this as inappropriate.

Sorry to say but it sounds like the heating element is on its way out... Happened to ours and repair was more than a new dryer so we brought a new one

Isn't heating up. takes forever to dry,

Disconnect the complete exhaust vent tubing and clean it out thorourghly. Then it will dry. There is a moister sensor in your dryer and when the lint builds up inside the vent tubing the sensor shuts off the burner to prevent fires from starting

Maytag MDE8600AYW takes way too long drying clthes

either your house vent is plugged, or the vent in the dryer by the blower is plugged. when the vent is plugged, even partially, the moisture is not leaving the dryer. It will take a long time to dry, and the top of the dryer will get hot when the vent is plugged. Clean the house vent and check down below the lint trap by the blower, then it will dry fine again.

My Maytag Atlantis gas dryer is not heating as well

Most common problem is lint is blocking the exhaust duct. It will need to be vacuumed out.

Not heating properly, many cycles to dry loads

Check the following to address this issue--

Note: Normal drying time for a dryer is about 45 minutes (some may take up to an hour).

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat.

3. Heating element
A heating element might only be partially burned out, in which case it would still work but will take longer time to dry the clothes. Replace the element if found defective.

Dryer not heating as it should. Gets warm, but takes several cycles to dry clothes

Could be 2 things... either your heat source is out of repair or your vent is blocked. Since you say it only gets warm I'll assume the problem is with the gas coils inside the unit. These parts are replaceable

Back & top of dryer get hot, clothes take long time to dry.

First thing to check for is blocked airflow. Check the dryer as well as the venting from the back of the dryer to the outside of the house good airflow is neccessary. You could remove the venting from the back of the dryer and run a load to see if that helps. Do not leave it off as it is exhausting lint and if a gas dryer spent fuel.

I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.
