Question about Dell 922 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Had to reformat HD and reinstall all programs and driver disks.
I used the Dell restore system disks provided.
Now every time the system loads up the add hardware indicator comes up saying:
1. A new video device has been identified.
I have tried to reinstall several times with out success, it keeps coming up.
If I click "cancel" it will go away
2. A new printer device has been identified.
(On inspecting the system it shows the printer is installed and it functions fine)
I have tried several times to reinstall and even went to Dell support site and FINALLY found an updated driver. Which, I downloaded and installed.
This did not fix the problem!
The failed to install window continues to pop up and will not close. The only way to keep it from coming up is to unplug the printer.
When you do a restore on those, yes, you load XP, then you have to run the drivers disk.
The trick is, after you restore windows, you have to install the chipset driver first.
Then do sound, NIC (NIC has to be done manually), and video (don't worry about the USB drivers, they get taken care of in the windows updates)
After all of that is in, do your windows updates (of course reboot again)
Then do windows update manually (START>Update Windows, Custom) and make sure to include hardware updates.
Once all of that is in, then attach the printer (don't turn it on) install the printer software, and turn the printer on when it tells you to.
Not doing the restore in this order will result in the errors you are getting.
The chipset drivers first is the key to the whole project.
(I've probably done 100+ of these).
I don't know if you can go back in now to do these steps, you might be better off, starting all over.
