Question about Toshiba Satellite P205-S6287 Notebook PC

1 Answer

Power When I check the power cord with a multi-meter it has the required 19v DC +/-1volt but plugging it into the laptop... Well it doesn't work anymore. The plug LED doesn't come on anymore and the battery doesn't charge. I'm trying to take it apart and see if there is anything wrong on the jack inside but without the manual to disassemble it's not going so well. I do this kinda work for a living too, but most of the stuff I take apart and fix is in a VME chassi. So basically, do you know where I can find a manual for what I need, and have you seen this problem before?

My Asus get no power

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

My laptop wont turn on, even when the power cord is plugged in. i tested the power cord with a multi meter and the cord has power

Hi,

Have you tried removing your battery for a minute then plug it in again?
Check also your charger if it has a voltage output using your multi-meter. the expected voltage you will read is indicated on your chargers name tag in DC volts (observe polarity).

When you press the power button does anything happens to your laptop or nothing happens at all even indicator lights?

Don't forget to rate me...
Thanks..

regards,
John

Advent N270 netbook will not charge. Orange light comes on initially then goes off. Also when I wiggle the plug into the laptop the light flashes on and intermittently.

It sounds like either a bad connection on the motherboard or a broken wire in the adapter making intermittent connection.

1. With the power adapter disconnected, do you have a power light? This would indicate the adapter is good and the plug is questionable.

2. Check your power adapter output with a multi-meter.(be sure to wiggle the wires around) If the power fluctuates, replace the plug.

3. If the power is solid, replace the motherboard connector.

I have a gateway 3250GZ laptop, the DC in jack

http://forums.whatthetech.com/DC_Jack_Laptop_t105164.html

double check your power cord! i just went thru 3 days of troubleshooting my Gateway M6318. Thought it was my dc jack.... after tearing down my laptop... finding the jack in tact, soldering in tact. testing my power cord... off and on for 3 days.. it was reading 19v.. which is what it should... but as of today began zero reading on tester. Tomorrow I will buy a new power cord to see if this was the correct problem... wish i would have found the above reference site before all the other troubleshooting i had done... tearing down my lap top, pulling, tugging, twisting my power cord to get a good charge.... etc. hope this helps!

Hi i asked for my ibm t40 laptop dc jack to be replaced and i have looked in my profile but all i can see is dc jack for a printer my problem is changing the dc jack on my ibm t40 LAPTOP

Problem with power socket on the laptop, it may caused by a dry solder joint and needs to be resoldered or the power socket may be faulty and needs to be replaced. Either way to fix this, it requires the laptop to be dismantled to get at this power socket. Get a quote to repair, as it could cost a few dollars.
If it is a faulty cord/plug on the power adapter, this can be checked with a multi-meter. When you connect the multi-meter probes to the power plug the voltage should be steady and the reading should be slightly higher then the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the power adapter. If the voltages fluctuates as you wriggle the plug then you have a broken wire in the plug. Replacing the plug would not cost much.

Toshiba laptop battery or AC/DC adapter

step 1.First remove the battery out
step 2.Try to plug in the AC/DC adapter and see any Power light or something on your machine. If you have power light on your machine that mean your adaptor is supplying electric. But still there're some adapter that don't really supply a good DC voltage
we need to further check.
step 3: incase no light nothing on your machine you need to use analog meter or digital meter to check that your adapter is giving out DC Volatage around 16-19V
Best of luck, takecare.
