Fairly new ink cartridge which is almost full but unused for 90 days. Any way to get the ink flowing again?

Hi genework1,

Here's a trick I've used with some success. Depending on the cartridge, this is for carriage mount styles like HP, Lexmark, Canon (current models) and others. Remove the cartridge, and soak the print-head portion where the tiny jets are located, in a small shallow dish with clear alcohol. Try swooshing it around a bit, and you may start seeing a discharge of the ink color you're using. Let it soak some more, dry it off and reinstall.

If the old ink is dissolved, then the cartridge may start printing, and it will be a little "weak" until the alcohol is mostly used up. This is not a guarantee to work all the time, but its worth a try. The "tank" style cartridges like Brother uses are another story, since they are reasonably priced containers with no print-head.

They have a tube system feeding ink to the print-head on the carriage. Either the print-head noozles or the tube could become clogged, and require factory service, or a pretty elaborate set of procedures to clear the blockages. I have had mixed results, refilling an empty cartridge with alcohol, and allowing that to try feeding the tubular system, and dissolve the dried ink. If it succeeds, then simply install a new or known good cartridge, and the problem may be solved.

I hope this will give you a chance to get your printer going again.

Regards, Bill

My HP j6400 printer still says to replace right ink catridge

A lot of the time this issue is caused by ink/scum covering the contacts where you put the cartridge. Try taking a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol and lightly cleaning the contacts.

IBM think pad t40...the screen stays black. Shows

Are the activity lights blinking like the computer is doing something? If so the monitor may be disconnected from the unit or damaged. If so this is a pc repair issue, and a little tricky to do on your own.

Epson d78 printer

Usually the new cartridges come taped at places where the
ink is supposed to come out of, for shipping purposes.

Before installing you should have removed all those
tapes. There may be in more than one place per
cartridge too. Your little cartridge instruction booklet
should show you where they are and how to remove them

From what you are saying I suspect you did not
remove those prior to installing?

I am getting mine from
http://www.inkfilling.com
and they come with instructions as above.

If you did remove them then you may have not
installed the cartridges correctly perhaps did not
place them completely in their socket.

If you did then you must have something clogged
possibly printhead but i doubt that, most likely to be
one of the above.

Printer works, paper is running through, but no printing takes place

is the cartridge moving back and forth? if it is, and its not printing, then the ink cartridge is either empty, damaged, or not properly installed. :)
