No Disc sometimes I get a "no disc" on the machine, but the next day it works fine. When it registers, "no disc", what can I do at that moment?

Thanks so much for the speedy reply, unbelievable.......How about cleaning?

I've sometimes got the 'no disk' message. Then after opening and closing the disk tray the disk loads and plays without any problem. Then maybe a few weeks later I might get the 'no disk' message again. If opening and closing disk tray didn't work, then turning the dvd player off, then on, worked. Player is only 1 year old. I've wondered if maybe it's dust, or just the dvd-reader getting old (worn out).

When the Dvd player cannot read a cd or dvd, it shows the "no disc" message.
The head laser of your Dvd player must be old if you get messages like that, replacement of the head laser may be necessary.

Dusts can cause the laser head to not recognize a cd or a dvd, how old is your player?

Cleaning the laser head is possible, but you will have to open your dvd player in order to clean it.

Let me know if you succeed to open your player.

Player won't play any disc now

Time to look inside the dvd player. try readjusting the variable trimmer under the laser lens of the dvd player assembly. It is usually located under the lens assembly. try to adjust the lens at every 1 degree angle up to +/-5deg. sometimes it can be done. if not. time to change for new lens. damage lens is caused by using pirated DVDs or bad disc as the lens is trying to read the data on the cd.

We have a yamaha dvd player, model number dv-s5450 and it won't play our dvds. Sometimes it works but sometimes it won't even read them, tried cleaning lasers with laser cleaner and that didn't work any...

I had a similar problem...the machine, which had been great up until then, started to be very fussy when loading a disc; using a lens cleaner did not help at all.

I opened the disc tray and used a can of "air duster" with the straw attachment blowing in lots of air into every little nook and cranny that I could reach, especially in and around the actual lens area. The liquified gas under pressure must have been too cold as, at first, there was no improvement whatsoever when I tried playing a disc. However, the next day the player was working perfectly again.

It is worth a try.

Disk error message

In the manual there is a list of discs the unit wil play. On the last pages there is a quick reference. There are also region codes that need to be set. Maybe a power outage reset your settings. Also it would be good to know if this unit played disc previously, plays other disks? Or the discs play on other players. It could just be a dirt problem as well.

No Disc

Get a new machine. Not "seeing" the disc could be bad laser, transport, electronics, on and on. Given the repair cost, a NEW one is your only practical alternative.

SD-3109 DISC ERROR

Sometimes the motor that spins the disk will develop a dead spot where it will refuse to start up and spin, so my bet would be either the motor or the driver IC that powers it. Depending on your model number (it should have either a letter B,C,E or U after it) it may need the whole mechanism replaced. Also at around the 7th year, it has been my own experience that the laser pickup gets weaker and will either stop reading the discs all together or start skipping part way through, so a complete mechnism replacement is probably the way to go for this repair, unless you find that the replacement cost is under $150.
