Re: zenith 51" tv
There is a very good chance that the fault can be in the power supply, and or one of the scan circuits are failing, due to a few parts that have come off their values. These types of faults are due to age and use.
You should call in a service rep who is familiar with your make and model of set. He would be able to give you a proper estimate for the repairs.
Some of these repairs are very reasonable in cost, while the more difficult types can be rather expensive.
Hope yours is the first case

on the mainboard (green board) whilst the tv is on but it dosent matter if the screen is black.. feel the main chip... it should be silver and big in metal... feel if it is hot if it is very hot then your tv is overheating and might need a fan at the back or new mainboard
Check the internal fan on the TV. when you turn the set off the fan should still run. Get a couple cans of "dust off". The rear of the set is easy to pop off. Pull the power to the set and let it set for a couple hours, then clean out the back of the set with dust off. the fan comes out easy with 4 screws. clean it off and put it back together. should be ok. If you still have an issue, post a comment and I can help you further.
Unplug the cable box for an hour, replug it back in.Should get the cable box to reboot to updated the softwares.Might work than,tv seem to have picture, somethings on the screen, words mean ur tv still works.
id check the blue screen control first its at the bottom of the set you will have to take the front panel off and behind it is another small black panel remove that one and to select any function those controls need to be attached so slide that front panel to the left there and take you remote put the tv on video input and there are sic controls on this little black screen control block look for the screen controls and turn the blue one just slightly clockwise and you will see the blue screen will light up and you will have little arched lines turn the control back slowly till the lines disaper and the screen goes black
and then cycle the set off give it five mins or so and restart it and see if every thing returns and your video is being displayed then switch it back to your input and view and reassemble
If the lines are thin and close together running horizontally, it may be the vertical driver, but that usually takes out the resistor and sometimes the diode in the B+ for the vert. Also you must replace the caps that caused the problem in the first place.
I had this problem and just turned off the TV and let it cool down. (You should unplug it before opening anyting). I opened the cover over the fan (on the back, near bottom center) and took out the filter. I washed off the filter, made sure it was good and dry, put it back in and turned the TV back on. The filter was quite dirty. I have not had a temperature problem since.
