We have a 5.1 in-ceiling surround sound system and recently watched a movie. however we could not hear any voices. we have never experienced this problem before, and are wondering if the settings on the device need to be changed. If so how is this done? thanks for the support, Dashton Peccia

You should make sure the 'center' channel is working as that is where most movie dialog will appear. The manual covers setup and testing to certify the speakers work.

Should I be hearing only music and background noise from the surround speakers. I do not hear voices, just music, background noise, applause, etc. thanks,,!

Yes, for most movies the surround speakers are for music and background. Unless the person speaking is supposed to be behind you, the voice will not come from there.

The sound on all the movies on our tv is soft voice and loud music. How can I set the volume to be the same for both?

Some TV's have sound settings to empathies voice. If the TV has a centre speaker you can increase the sound output on that. That will make voices louder.
However many people do complain about loud music drowning out voices on TV. The problem is that movies were meant to be seen in cinemas and TV sound systems don't match up to that. If you can't find a solution consider a surround sound system as this will correct the sound problems on movies.

When watching a DVD in surround sound movie mode

FIRST- double check that the center channel is hooked up in the center channel connection. we have all made this mistake. second if you are watching a movie through a dvd or bluray player be sure that both your audio L/R rca's or hdmi cable's are plugged in. I do not know if your are on cable or satellite? Double check the connections. Be sure that the that if your can select your sound preference turn it to 5.1 surround or matrix. hope this helps

Need help with my suround sound system

try wiggling the cords.i think it's open from the inside of the cord.sometimes attaching and pulling cords is the cause of no sound at all.check your cords for open.you can use a battery and a small lamp and wires.make a circuit of a lamp.then, get one wire from the small flashbulb and use it as a probe.the wire from the battery is the other.hook it up to your cords touching the one end ,like completing the circuit.if the bulb lights up it means it's ok and if not, your cord is open.

Emerson dvd player - background sound lauder than dialogue

Greetings surfjax,

If you will allow me to make an assumption, you do not have a 5.1 surround system connected to your DVD player. This is a common experience with users of a standard TV or stereo receiver if a movie is being presented in 5.1.

In a surround sound system the center channel speaker provides almost all the vocal tracks while the side channels will provide music and some background noises. You'll still be able to hear the voices in your side speakers, but it will be muted and over powered by music or sound effects.

Some DVD players allow you to "Downmix" the surround signal to stereo. You might want to look around your sound setup on the DVD player or check your owners manual.

Hope this helps.
