Noise when in reverse - Hoover Dryers

    Hi,

I cannot make out if your replay is a joke or not?

Our Hoover tumble dryer initially rotates clockwise, then stops and rotates anticlockwise (forward and reverse) and does this to eliminate creases. It is during the anticlockwise motion (reverse) that the noise appeasers.

2006 chevy suburban making a whining noise in reverse only, makes no noise when in neutral rolling backwards

if manual ( not specified) reverse gear is a spur cut gear and will be noisy when engaged
gets worse if the gear has been engaged inadvertently or slashed by mistake as small pieces of the teeth get chipped off and the result is a noisy reverse operation
nothing to worry about til it starts to clunk as you are going in reverse

How do I silence or quieten the reverse noise ?

reverse gear is what is called a spur cut gear and because of that it generally is noisier that the other gears
it runs on it's own idler shaft and there most probably will be a bearing problem that is allowing the mesh of the gears to alter and that will make the reverse noise louder than normal
so it is either a bearing on the way out or because of the way the gears are cut , a tooth could be chipped or partially broken off (slashing reverse inadvertently when selecting from 5th back to 4th)
the fix will be a box overhaul of the bearing or gears

by whatyour saying sounds to me that youyr tranmission may be done ans stick a fork on it, is this a new car? or new used? check if there is a warrenty on any parts etc. also try checking the fluids in the transmission it may be kind of tricky. so find yor owners manuel. that may be helpful. hope it gets back on the ro9ad again.

2004 jeep grand Cherokee limited 4.0 squeak from transmission when first engaged in reverse. I have verified this with a mechanics stethoscope, the warmer it gets the quieter it gets, sound is louder

great but no transmission stated.
a/t
42RE? or 45RFE?
check bolts on flex plate? (TC flex plate to fly juncture)
seem like a torque reaction , caused squeak, ( i cant hear it so...)
the mounts, spray them all with silicon spray, try that first before
a new $2-3000 trans..
U-joints? spray them next, if now gone ,bingo>
keep in mind noise can telegraph. that means
noise can travel far , from origin. fooling any one with a stethoscope.

1998 land rover discovery transmission makes loud banging noise when shifting from pari to drive?

Tons of possibilities here (transmission, differential, motor mounts, transmission mounts....), so I'll ask some debug questions to help narrow it down. Does it make the noise when shifting into reverse? Also, does it make the noise only when shifting from park, or also when shifting from neutral (into drive or into reverse)? Did the noise start as an occasional, softer noise and get worse over time, or did it start suddenly? Does the vehicle lurch at the same time as the noise? What happens when you go from Reverse to Drive, or vice versa? Has any work been done recently (brakes, tires, alignment, suspension, transmission)?

Squealing noise when in reverse

Is the noise under the hood? or where?

If under the hood, most likely the engine has a bad motor mount. The engine will "twist" slightly to one direction when driving forward and "twist" in the opposite direction when you drive in reverse.

When it is twisted (in reverse) an engine pulley or fanbelt is scraping on some plastic part, or whatever, and making the noise.

If not under the hood, it may be one of the front brake pads that have a "worn brake pad" sensor. The sensor is an L-shaped piece of metal that scrapes the rotor when the brake pad backing gets too close to the rotor, hence worn brake pads.

If the noise is somewhere else, maybe another "expert" has a suggestion.

Please post more information... Thank you.

Weird noises in drive and reverse

The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

Whining noise when engaging 1st or reverse.

i had a nissan pickup that would whine in all gears except 4th...it started out with 1st then reverse then went to the rest...solution was new transmission...or rebuild cause the syncronizers or the gears them selves are being chewed up...the new transmission was cheaper then a rebuild. or take it to somewhere that will do free diag on the transmission.
