Question about HP OfficeJet 7310 All-In-One InkJet Printer
My Officejet 7310 suffered a phone line surge which blew the main board. HP has stopped selling the part, so I (in the UK) had to buy one from the US.
It is effectively the same board (e.g. voltages are sorted out in the power supply). The printer powers up fine, goes through all of its start-up checks and then stalls with "Incorrect Cartridge - One or both print cartridges are not intended for use on this printer".
The cartridges are HP, first use, in date and were in use on the same printer prior to the failure. They have been tested on another printer and have worked fine. I have also tested brand new HP first use cartridges on my printer and had the same failure.
I have done everything that HP can suggest - several times. Cleaning, partial, semi-full AND full resets and the '10 tap' test, which prints fine, but reports that the cartridges are wrong.
The only thing I can think of is that HP has put in regional (US) firmware that is effectively stopping me using entirely legitimate and valid cartridges. HP have been less than helpful on investigating and correcting this theory. They have merely left me hangin' on their telephone queues for minutes at a time, listening to music and costing me $50 to get the same advice and solutions. Even though I say "I've already done that more than once", they simply suggest that I try it again. They got rather twitchy when I mentioned firmware.
a) is there something else that is wrong? b) if I am right, how do I change the firmware to say that it's now in the UK and not in the US? c) if I am right and HP is simply playing 'dumb', is it contravening any 'anti-trust' laws (or anything else)?
BE PERSISTANT. DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER. HP IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WILL REPLACE YOUR PRINTER IF YOU are persistence. they will give you extentended warranty and Eventually, you WILL be sent a new replacement printer!!
