Try unplugging power cord for five minutes. Truy also resetting the unit.
If this does not fix it get a replacement from seller.

Depends on were you did buy your guaranty, check on the guaranty papre, there you should find the guaranty provider.
If you bought guaranty from best buy (must be written on contract) then they must deal with the refund.
We do tech support for Best buy, but warranty is customer care.
If you purchased guaranty from Belking I can give you belkin phone number.

Trying to hookup XM radio to RX-397; no sound. Which inputs should I be using?

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Yamaha-RX-397-Receivers-manual/id/320ag614/t/2/

Anything that has a headphone output can be adapted to feed an RCA cable pair for standard stereo to any audio device with a standard RCA input (except PHONO). Get a cable like the one described here: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10218&cs_id=1021804&p_id=665&seq=1&format=2

Of course, if your XM device has standard RCA outputs, use RCA cables without adapters.

No audio sound, Reciver going to protection mode

If you bought the extended warranty, you need to go where you purchased it and they can look it up on their computer system. If it's out of warranty, the repair cost is debatable. Between 125-175 average. 50% of the cost.

I have an AVR 335 less than 3 years old no sound

Hello

Yes, there is something you can try, to know where to look for the problem if this happens again. If the receiver is still under warranty, just send it back, otherwise, open up the amp and trace the path back from the speaker channel to the capacitors on each channel, this is usually the problem(you should be able to see if it is blown, cheap to repair).

If all the channels went out at the same time, there is something wrong with the central unit, to repair that, if it is not the above problem, cost expensive.

Hope this can help you.

Kind regards
Andrea

My Pioneer amplifier VSX-d512-s is coming up with the error message OVERLOAD and then immediately switching off. Has worked consistently for four years, this is the first problem

Sounds to me like a thermal shutdown. If it's no longer under warrenty, try opening the housing and spraying the inside with compressed air to free up any dust. Dust acts as an insulator and doesn't allow the heat to dissipate.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what else could be done without a service manual.

Xm radio

Try with a different XM Antenna from a friend or shop if possible to verify whether it's the antenna or the unit itself.
Visually inspect antenna cable and connection at the antenna and the unit and make sure the antenna cable hasn't been damaged.
I would do this before considering other options
Good Luck!
