Try a look at the tomtom Go 300 questions as this problem is very similar with other models also. if you have already tried a reset then its likey 2 IC's have blown inside your device.

try re setting the TomTom, reset button is founded on the bottom underneath where the docking mount connect, hold down for 15 seconds, then press the little button on the top on the right side while turning on. worked for me
Go too preferences and click then click the arrow until you come to battery saving, click that as it may turn of your screen after a few seconds during your route
To my experience, battery capacity and life is very poor for the GO 730. If brand new, the battery can last up to three hours but this degrades quickly. If its cold, the electrochemical process in the battery is slower, adding to the problem. Also, switching off the TomTom does not really switch off, it goes to standby, still using a little power continuously. After a day or two this completely drains the charge. I have my GO 730 since mid 2008 and battery is down to ten minutes of use after a full charge. In my car I use the provided car DC adapter, so I do not mind the bad battery too much.
I had similar problem this morning. Last time I was using my TT was about 3 mths ago and it worked fine. 2day I switched it on, the first screen appeard but the, TT just switched off. I put my friends SC card and it started... . Looks like soft on SD issue. I have a buckup file but at 87% it fails ... Lifes a ..... :D My advice is to download and install new soft on your SD card but what about maps U/me bought with the TT?? Have no idea
I think it has to do with hooking up your unit via the usb cable to the computer. I got one from Radio Shack and it worked fine for a day, drove with it and shut it on and off a couple of times. Then I hooked it up to my emachine computer, and all I got was a white screen. Took it back got another one, drove with it, turned it on and off a couple of times, worked fine. Then I hooked it up to my computer, and again the same white screen until I reset it. I noticed all these posts are in the last few days, so I would say it is a bad batch of units. I purchased one for my wife 3 weeks ago and no such problem.
