04 optima my 04 optima has a problem with its headlight switch. The parking lights come on when switched, but headlights will not.....mabe switch is bad?...no blown fuse

  • DoubleJam Sep 23, 2008

I have pretty much the same problem. I have Hi Beams parking and fog lights but my low beams just don't work. I figured a fuse was blown cause what is the odds that both bulbs would blow at the same time? I checked the fuse in the dash and it was fine. I traded the Relay in my engine compartment from the AC which is the same relay and they still didnt work. I am going to go get a new bulb now to see if that is the problem. Hope so, sure dont want to have to deal with the expensive/crappy service from my dealer. Will let you know.

I would definitely look into the switch at this point. Make sure there are no blown fuses in the relay as well. But most likely your switch is the problem.

Side note. The bulbs are still good in the car right. I have seen cases where both headlights burn out because of voltage surges caused by bad wiring etc. Also I have seen someone pull the headlight switch in a certain position so both the dim and brights were on (depending on car) and this caused both headlights to burn out.

Hope I could help

Parking and runing lights stay on when headlights are off engine off also headlights work when switch on

Probably a bad headlight switch. It controls the park lights, if it won't turn them off, you should try a new headlight switch.

Lights will not turn on

HEADLIGHTS NOT WORKING

It can be faulty headlight switch or issue with its wiring. Or its faulty head light fuse.

I have a 1995 Ford Explorer Limited and the high beams work but the low beams and fog lights do not, please help....

These trucks are known for bad multifuction switches.
the switch that i talk of is the signal switch , the handle is the switch, it bolts to side of steering column . this switch controls the signals and the headlights and high /low beams. the other thing is the headlight switch connector, the connector some times goes bad and starts to melt or just comes out of the connector. you will need to remove the cover to steering column, the screws are located under the bottom cover in holes. remove cover and check connector and then test for power if you have power going into switch but not coming out then switch is bad.

the last thing is to make sure the bulbs are good , make sure the headlight bulbs are good , and also the driving light bulbs, test for power at the connectors to those lights to.
You will need to do a little testing to find the problem.

1994 silverado illumination on instrument panel doesn't work, parking lights and tail lights do not work but headlights and brakelights work fine. All fuses are good. Is this a bad dimmer switch?

No. Dash lights being out could be a bad headlight switch, since the dash lights are routed through the headlight switch, not the dimmer switch. Park and tail lights also controlled by the headlight switch.

My drl switch is bad iv'e concluded... but now i have no headlights high or low. is this a blown fuse from lack of drl switch replacement or what. i still have my parking lights but no headlights

Hi,
Likely the Headlights work through the DRL switch, too. Replace the switch (get a used one from a used parts/salvage/wrecking yard) or from a dealer...might call an auto parts store, too.

Schematic_Diagram 93 lincoln town car tail lights and license plate light.

Sounds like either your wiring from the Light switch is bad or the Light switch itself is bad. Check with your Owners manual to see if the "Parking lights" have a separate fuse.

Your tail and License plate lights would light with either the Headlights or the "Parking" light selected at the switch as would the front parking lights. If all lights except the headlights are out, your problem is closer to the light switch than at the mounting points of each Parking light or License plate light.

This is one case where you will not know if a dead wire off of the switch is dead because of a bad switch or a bad wire. You would have to detach the harness at the switch, test the wire bundle or jump the switch with power to see how it distributes power through the Harness. It will take a lot of time to rule out the switch. It may be cheaper to replace the switch and then work from there.

Is it possible for a light switch circut in the switch to go bad only in the park light position? headlights work,

You say that the headlights work. The parking lights don't. My question is...are the parking lights working properly when the headlights are on? If they are working in conjunction with the headlights, but won't work independently, then the problem might lie in the switch. Hope this helped and best wishes.
