The printer cuts off the top part of the document when printing. Is this a margin issue?

Yes, most likely your application's margin settings are incorrect. Try printing a test page - NOT from the application. If this is Windows, go to printers in control panel, right-click on the subject printer, choose Properties, then click the Print Test Page button. You should get the standard Windows printer test page with the logo at the top and all the printer specifics below. If the test page is also cut off, look around in the HP-provided software for any margin and/or page size settings that are incorrect, such as A4 paper when it should really be Letter size.

Every time I turn off the printer, when I turn it back on it prints a test page. How do I stop this?

This problem is caused by not adjusting the printer after replaceing the ink cartridge. You will have to aline the cartridge by printing out a scan page then putting it in the scanner and selecting the lines that line up best for the printer. Once you have done the alinement process it will no longer do this. Every HP I have owned has done this. here is the page to go to to set it up to stop this problem. Hope this helps and thanks for using Fix-ya. Let me know if this helped.

When i go to alinement of the caridge, it does not print the D alinement, i am on mac.

this really does depend on which make/model your printer. if it is not printing one whole pattern you may have a problem with one or more of your colours, print a nozzle check or test page and make sure all colours are printing properly, replace cartridges as nessesary,
