Dell vostro 3500 shows battery connected but not charging and intermittently shoes no battery detected

Instructions

1
Determine if the laptop battery is defective. While less than 1 percent of batteries are defective, the possibility is still there. If the battery is new and only charges some of the way, it may just require a BIOS update to charge fully. New batteries that refuse to charge at all may be defective. Purchase a new laptop battery to replace the defective one.

2
Test the laptop power adapter to see if it's faulty. Run the laptop directly from the laptop power adapter and without the battery. If the laptop does not work with the adapter plugged in, the adapter is dead and you will need to replace it. The laptop battery may refuse to charge if the adapter is faulty. Charge the battery with the laptop turned off.

3
Insert the laptop battery into another laptop to test it. If the laptop battery charges in another laptop, the laptop's motherboard may be bad. Replacing a motherboard in a computer can be very expensive. If the cost to fix the computer is not worth the cost of replacing the motherboard, consider purchasing a new laptop.

4
Reinstall the battery to ensure all connectors latch properly. The latch mechanism that holds the laptop battery should click into place. If the latch does not close, remove the battery and examine the compartment for signs of damage.

5
Troubleshoot the BIOS to determine if there is a hardware problem. Turn on the laptop and immediately enter BIOS setup by holding down the "Del" and "F1" or "F2" keys, depending on the make and model of the laptop. When the BIOS screen appears, see how long it takes for the battery to charge down. If the battery does not last as long as the BIOS setup, a hardware failure may be the problem.

My Sony PEG-T615C/G works well but the battery will not hold a charge. Can I replace the battery? if so, what type is it?

Hello

Your system definitely uses a lithium ion battery.

Over their lifespans, lithium-ion batteries can lose the ability to hold a charge. After a few years, some batteries will last only a fraction of the rated runtime. Replacing a battery is relatively simple; most pop out from the bottom or back of the laptop.

Many retailers, however, charge hundreds of dollars for a new battery. Sites like batteries.com specialize in discount laptop batteries and can save you money on a brand new battery for your laptop. For example, a Dell Latitude D620 Li-ion battery costs $139 on Dell's Web site and $83.99 on batteries.com, as of press time. (The company even offers a two-year warranty and 45-day money-back guarantee on all laptop-battery orders.)

Sounds like the cells inside of the battery are not holding a charge, you need to get a replacement battery honestly.

The laptop will not start... it does not hold its charge and when the charger is in it still does not respond. it flashes an orange light at the battery light but nothing else happens. i have taken out the...

You may need to replace the battery. The battery is not holding charge so it is likely bad; but worse, it may be overloading the supply and keeping the unit from starting. Some supplies will not operate without a battery in place. If it worked previously, then you are fairly safe in the battery investment. If you don't know if it works, you will have to decide, as a starting with a fresh battery may still uncover other problems.

Battery is showing its there and at 82% and charging but not charging and laptop crashes when mains fails ?

The laptop's battery might be weak to hold the laptop. The indicator will indicate the battery is ok, but when mains is removed there, it goes off. Try swtch on with only battery and see if it goes on and then off, it is the battery that is bad.

My lap top turns off *** soon as i remove the power cord.... its like my battery will not take charge at all.. the battery light flashes 2 green and one orange... its a dell 9100

Dell has problems with that motherboard not recognizing the battery or the adapter. If you get error messages about the battery not being correct or recognized, the board has issues.

If this notebook is always plugged in then the battery has shorted and won't hold a charge.

Best option is to try another battery. Another thing, if your system is more than a year old, the battery needs replacing anyway.

If you are going to use this plugged in, get another battery, charge it up and remove it.
