Question about Maytag MMV5156AAS Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microwave not heating

My husband went to heat something up in our microwave the other day and he heard a popping sound. After that, nothing will heat up and the microwave is louder. We are lost on what to do since it is an in range microwave and we can just take it to someone so they can take a look at what the problem might be. What could be wrong, and how do we get it fixed? This microwave is only 5 years old!
Thank You.

It probably has a shorted high voltage diode, a relatively cheap fix.

Here is a link you or someone you know can use for test help, but read the safety warnings first: http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our site, we now have a video available showing how to remove a typical control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Also, you can download Maytag owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can find your nearest Maytag-authorized servicer here.

Sounds like the inverter (power supply for cooking) or the magnatron which does the work----neither are cheap parts.

Own Whirlpool microwave model MH7100XY, everything works on it, however it does not heat anything, heard a small pop and after that it does not warm or cook anything?????

The pop sound is an indicator the magnetron is gone that heats the food. It is cheaper to replace the microwave oven than have it repaired.

Microwave popped and now does not heat

Okay, first we need to separate the situations. You were boiling water on the stove and had the range hood fan running to **** up the steam. Then you put something in the microwave to heat and you heard a pop and then zip-o.

The water on the stove has nothing to do with the situation, the fan you turn on is not part of the microwave, so it has nothing to do with the microwave.

The pop you heard and then the humming suggests the magnetron failed. You said you found a blow fuse and replaced it and still nothing, right? The magnetron is the most likely culprit...I would think it is safe to say that the magnetron shorted and drew enough current to blow the fuse.

Replace the magnetron and if that doesn't work, let me know here. Good Luck!

Microwave will not cook

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. There are some high voltage circuits that feed the magnetron and you can potentially get hurt if you don't know what you are doing. Would recommend you have it serviced by a professional if you want it fixed, otherwise look for a new one since the cost of repair can come close to the price of a new microwave oven.
