The blue light on the drive comes on for a minute and disappears.
I get no power at all. The Simpletech website offers no help and no download for driver software!!!! Will never buy from this company again. Got mine from Costco and going to return it.

You very likely need a new driver, if one is available. A search of the Simpletech site does not indicate there is one, as the drive is indicated as having been compatible with OS's through Windows XP. The driver download page is at http://www.simpletech.com/site_cms/content/support-drivers-software - and as you will see there is no upgraded driver for this hard drive. I would suggest contacting them (there is a link on the same page) to see if one is available, or if there is another workaround.

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

Take the unit apart the hard drive has come loose from the socket.
Been there done that, the unit works fine, prior to that it was asking for driver software you don't need for plug and play.

I have a Simple Tech (simple Drive) 320GB external hard drive.the light comes on But my computer won`t recognize it. The light comes on but that`s it.

Try connecting the drive to a different computer, to see if your computer is the problem.

If necessary, open the external case, and separate the disk-drive from the USB-to-disk-drive adapter.

Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive in some computer, to see if the disk-drive itself still can be accessed.

If not, and you have "important" data on the disk-drive, search the Internet for a professional "Data Recovery Service" -- you ship your disk-drive to them, pay them a lot of money, and they repair the disk-drive, just long-enough to copy your files to a brand-new disk-drive.

Hi where i can get the dirver for simple tech simpledrive pininfarina 320gb external usb 2.0 harda drive- blue? please i need one dirver to recognize my usb where i can get it?

If your version of windows dosn't have the driver, there is that possibility that your drive is not supported.

Two things I want you to do ... check the Microsoft Hardware compatability list at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx

Visit the simpletec web site ... http://www.simpletech.com/support/ and see if they offer something.

If your device is not on the windows compatability list you are probably out of luck unless the manufacturer offers something for it.

I have presumed you are running windows ... since you dont say otherwise.

I was given a 160 GB simple tech external hard drive and pluged

You don't really need a manual, it's simply a normal USB HDD you just plug it into a USB port. If OK, you will hear a "Bong Bong" and the OS will detect and install drivers, then the device will show up in My Computer, as a simple HDD, just use it as a normal drive.

I need driver software for my external hard drive. I have the 320GB Simple tech.

drivers should be on the drive! on desktop- click on my computer, click on drive letter (right click)- click on properties- or click on 'open' - if it shows driver files, double click and install drivers, or you may need to format it!
good luck!

My SimpleTech 320GB external hard drive is no longer recognized

trying using it on another system and and see if it happens like that. if it does, you may want to get a driver for the hard drive. it is likely the driver is corrupted. try it on another port also.

Simple Tech SP U25/60 external hard drive

Almost nothing is supported on Win 2000 because it had shuch a short life span. most new tech made in the last 2-3 years only runs onXP or Vista. Every once in a while some will work back to 98.

p.s. did it say it was compatable with 2000? look on the box
