Question about Samsung DVD-VR357

Progressive Scan Hi, Sure hope you have some advice for me. I want to copy from a DVD to VHS cassette, but I get an error message telling me that the copy won't work when progressive scan is on. I can't get the progressive scan function to turn off. It just toggles between the three options--480,780, and 1080. This is driving me nuts. Thanks. NG

    Hi,
Sure hope you have some advice for me. The Samsung DVD-VR357 is a combo unit. I want to copy from a DVD to VHS cassette on this same machine (which is one of the touted features for this unit), but I get an error message telling me that the copy won't work when progressive scan is on. I can't get the progressive scan function to turn off. When I press the P Scan button as the manual tells me to do, the readout just toggles between the three options--480, 720, and 1080, but never turns off the progressive scan. This is driving me nuts.

    Thanks.

Unplugging from the power did not solve the problem.

Copy function not permitted when progressive scan is on; I need to know how to turn progressive scan off and then can proceed to copy the disc, which is a fairly straightforward process.

The DVD Disc which you want to copy is manufactured in Progressive scan mode and you can't copy it on VHS because VHS requires interlace scanning to generate control signal to control servo system in VCR for playback.

Is your tv connected by a HDMI cable? It appears you will get the results you stated if it is. It needs to be connected with component cables to be able to turn off the progressive scan. Once connected with component "RCA" cables, do the following:

1. With the unit in Stop mode, press the P.SCAN button
on the front of the DVD Recorder & VCR.
2. The message “Press “Yes” to confi rm Progressive
scan mode. Otherwise press “No”” will appear. Press
the ◄ ► buttons to select Yes, and then press the
ENTER button.

Let me know what happens. Thanks.

Try these steps:

Locate the output jacks DVD player. Sometimes they are standard female RCA A/V jacks, like those found on the front of many VCRs. Others are more tricky, having a small jack that looks like a stereo headphones plug. These camcorders require a special cord that converts a 1/8" stereo signal into RCA A/V male plugs.

  1. Using the proper cord, connect your PLAYER to the VCR's RCA A/V input jacks, usually found on the front or back of your VCR.
  2. Turn on your VCR and TV, so you can see the input from the camcorder. You might have to select "Input 1/2", "Line 1/2", or "VIDEO" depending on your VCR model. You should now see whatever is on your camcorder displayed on your television.
  3. Press "Record" on your VCR, then press "Play" on your camcorder. That's it!

I have a grundig gr1000(b) vhs/DVD combo. Is it possible to record from video cassette onto DVD? It doesn't seem to be mentioned in the instruction manual. Thanks for your help.

Yes! You can select to copy from VHS to DVD or DVD to VHS, set the VHS tape ready to play and press pause, then put a blank recordable DVD disk in and then select copy, the options for VHS to DVD or DVD to VHS can be selected and then it will copy, when the tape gets to the end it will turn off itself, if you want to stop earlier you will have to stop it! Hope this helps.

Toshiba SD-V55HT stuck in Progressive scan mode.

Hello

Progressive Scan Video provides the highest resolution
pictures with less flicker and line structure

If you are using the COMPONENT/PROGRESSIVE

SCAN VIDEO OUT jacks, but are connecting the

DVD/VCR Receiver to a standard (analog) television,
set Progressive Scan to Off

If you are using the Component Video jacks for

connection to a TV or monitor that is compatible with a
progressive scan signal, set Progressive Scan to On.
To ON and OFF this function, Press "Setup" to display the setup screen.
Surf through, and hilight "Progressive scan" and press "Ok or Enter"
Here you can set this function ON or OFF. If you wnat to get it OFF, select OFF and press Enter.
OK.

My memorex combo dvd & vhs player is not working right. can you help me? the vhs player works fine, but the dvd player display's a split screen on the tv with a large yellow box with the word PSCAN....

PSCAN is a short form for Progressive Scan - a line scanning format used for High Definition TV. Standard TVs use Interlaced scanning. On your DVD/VHS player, the VHS is an analogue signal recorded in interlaced mode so is fine for a standard TV. The DVD is a digital signal and cazn be processed for progressive scan output in order to produce a better picture on a High definition TV (or a TV capable of handling progressive scan). If you cannot to your TV via the HD outputs then you should be able to set the DVD player to output interlaced instead of progressive scan.

hi keith_mor781

It sounds like that some connections to your VHS is not working, make sure that the cables are connected properly. to do that then disconnect and reconnect the cables, reboot the machine and retry.

Progressive scan

I had the same problem once and the solution is to reboot the DVD player. to do this you need to unplug the unit for 3 or more minutes and then you will have to go through the setup process again but everything should work fine and interlaced (not progressive) should be the dvd format again.

Split Screen

Go into SETUP
GENERAL SETUP PAGE
Go to VIDEO OUTPUT (can't see through error message, but it is the second one down - If you are on the right one, you will see S-Video, YUV Interlace and YUV Progress. as choices)
Change setting from YUV Progress to YUV Interlace

Mine was set on YUV Progress. and when I changed it, the problem disappeared.

Stuck in Progressive Scan Mode...please help!

There should be a switch on the DVD player that is makred 'progressive/interlaced.' You need to flick this switch til it says interlaced, as obviously your TV cannot view progressive signals. It may be on the back of the player, or under a flap on the front.
