I have the same issue. We had the ice maker replaced about a year ago due to the same issue. I spoke to someone tonight from the service center at Sears and she pretty much confirmed we are out of luck and will have to pay to have it replaced, even thought this is a recurrent problem in a less than 2 year old refrigerator.

Can you turn the ice maker off like other refrigerator ice makers? I didn't see anyway to turn my ice maker off or do I empty the ice out everytime?

Most ice makers have a control arm that raises and lowers to check for a full condition. It usually raises during the dump cycle and lowers during the fill cyle. If it is unable to lower (because the bin in full) it should shut off the fill cycle. If that function is not working, then if you move that control arm to the fully raised position, it should shut of the fill cycle, until you manually lower it again.

Ice maker stopworking

Hello,

If your ice maker has stopped producing ice completely, check these, in this order:
It may be turned off. Look for the wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If the wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. If so, try one of these:
If your ice maker has a small red plastic lever, lower it to lower the wire.
If there's no plastic lever, simply lower the wire.
In either case, the ice maker should begin producing ice again. Also make sure that the temperature is 8 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the freezer is too warm, the ice maker won't cycle properly.
The ice maker fill tube may be blocked with ice. If so, melt the blockage using a hair dryer-but be careful to not melt any plastic parts! Also replace the water shut-off valve or water-inlet valve, or both, if necessary.
The ice maker head assembly may have broken parts. Look to see if the gears are broken. Check to see if the small plastic arms that rest against the ice rake are broken. If the ice maker head assembly is modular and you've found broken parts, you can just replace it.

Take care.

Get a new ice maker. Nothing in the ice box controls the whims of that ice maker. Only it can dictate whether or not it wants to work correct.

The automatic ice maker quit working, but first the water control valve hung up open [the refill cycle did not end]. Fortunately, I was nearby and when I looked into the ice maker I saw a slow flow of...

I removed the wiring connectors from the two water control valves and when I reconnected the wires for the ice maker I heard the unit cycle. When I checked the ice maker, the ice maker shutoff arm was now completely down, operational position. Previously, I could see that the arm was up, but not at the top of the cycle. I'm not sure what caused the ice maker to cycle, but I am assuming that there was corrosion on the wiring connectors which was wiped off when unplugging/replugging the connectors.

Ice maker bin indicator arm is stuck in the bin is full position

You should be able to move it gently to the lower position.  If it doesn't want to move don't force it.  Try shutting the ice maker off in case the arm is frozen in the up position.  After the ice maker defrosts a bit try again to move the arm gently.

Ice maker overfill

The metal off/on arm may be disconnected. A full bin should keep the arm in the up position and shut off the ice maker.
Remove, then re-insert the metal arm in the back of the ice maker control head.
Make sure that a full bin of ice activates the control arm.
You may need to buy a replacement arm that is longer so that the ice catches on the arm.
