Normaly this small fan should be the mother board one, in addition to the 2 big fan (on the side) of the CPU.
And yes, it rarely start cooling.

I took mine apart and it looks like when you use vid out, the yellow thing, that chip will require cooling as does everything on the laptop i think the key board has a frikin' fan anyway, i have not tried this port yet so this is just a hacked guess

Can I connect my Toshiba NB 205 to my TV to watch etflix movies? the netbook has a VGA out, and the TV has S-cable and HDMI inputs. Thanks!

Interfaces 1 x Display / video - VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) , 1 x Network - Ethernet 10Base-T/100Base-TX - RJ-45 , 1 x Microphone - Input - Mini-phone 3.5 mm , 1 x Headphones - Output - Mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm , 3 x Hi-Speed USB - 4 pin USB Type A

The above interfaces are in your laptop. There is no S-cable or HDMI interface.
If your TV have VGA port you can connect your TV to the VGA port in laptop. This will alow you to convert the TV as monitor.

Compaq nx9010 notebook

Hello, this is the inside of your laptop:

ddbb582.jpg

So the fan you see at the rear pulls in cool air for the main processor & it exhausts on the left hand side through a grill which you can see. It should spin up on power up of the laptop & you should fell air moving out of this vent. It is most likely temperature controlled so will only come on when the processor gets hot. If the laptop is running hot and the fan is not spinning you need to have it checked.

You can download the service manual on the following link:
